Nokia Music Store making noise in the Netherlands

By the Team on 09 April 2008

AMSTERDAM, The Netherlands – Having flicked the switch earlier today, the new Dutch Nokia Music Store is alive and rocking, and planning to seriously tune into local sounds.

With bespoke location-based online content becoming far more prevalent and pertinent, it seems to make perfect sense that Nokia’s Music Stores push home grown talent. Echoed by Emile Baak, Managing Director of Nokia Benelux: “We want to be more locally relevant than any other digital music store.”

Although focussing keenly on up-and-coming Dutch acts and access to local music from interesting independent labels, it still offers millions of tracks from major artists.

Sweetening today’s launch Nokia has launched a special offer that sees any of the first 10,000 registrants get five songs free when they buy their first five songs.

What do you think about the whole location-based movement? Is going ultra local the best way forward for services online?
