Right time, right Plaze
By James on 23 June 2008
BERLIN, Germany – It’s not about who you are, it’s where you are. At least when it comes to context-aware applications. Plazes is a Berlin-based start up that specialises in context-aware social activity, and the latest to join the Nokia fold – the two companies today announced an agreement for “Nokia to acquire substantially all assets of Plazes”.
The team will continue to be based and work in Berlin which is where the team behind Nokia Maps is also based. The upshot for users is the rapid acceleration of development of contextually aware social media on our mobiles. Plazes adds time and place to social networking through special features designed to enable users to share where they are and what they’re doing.
This will bolt onto what Nokia already has, and is working on, making the whole suite of context-aware apps richer and more engaging. We can’t wait to see how this pans out and once the acquisition goes through, we shouldn’t have to wait too long.
Felix Petersen is co-founder of Plazes and wrote this on his blog this morning:
Do you use Plazes? Let us know what you think in the comments below.

I’ve been studying a lot of location based social media apps and what I like about plazes is that user can coordinate events for the future.
I’d like to suggest the Plazes team to evaluate some additional scenarios that I had blogged about a while back and make the experience even better.
