Nokia casts recycling net across the blogosphere

By Mike on 16 July 2008

INTERNATIONAL – Last week we hit you with stacks of news on Nokia’s new recycling initiatives, following its global survey that highlighted that only 3% of us recycle our old mobiles. It’s been great to see many of you posting insightful, positive and passionate comments on the subject. Another exciting aspect is Nokia is really practicing what it preaches, pushing the mobile recycling agenda internally.

In a similar vein, we’ve just been told that this is extending to many of the people Nokia is in contact with around the globe, including the multitude of bloggers who are loaned handsets for review. It seems that no stone is being left unturned in the recycling effort, and rightly so because it’s this sort of granular approach that can really begin to affect a wider change.

Initially dubbed ‘no phone unused’ it kicked off Stateside and is now being pushed globally, so bloggers with old Nokia devices are being encouraged to return any old phones for the sake of recycling. The phones that are being returned are either being donated, reused or simply recycled for their many precious parts. And this extends to the packaging, which is being completely recycled.

Is there anything else you think Nokia should be doing on the recycling front? Let us know in the comments section below.

Nokia should include a flyer in every phone, pointing out where the consumer can recycle the device. Of course it should be according to the country. Nokia here in South Africa sent me a list of recycle points available, and I included in my related post.

When i was in search of a camera phone and was trying for a discount with a shop keeper,

who was not able to give me any discount on my new camera hand set but suggested an

idea to go for recycle mobile phones which i have collected old and unused mobiles about

7 pcs from all my family members, and i submited to the shop keeper alongwith some

cash to got a new camera phone, that i wish to have. Later on i understood that the same

shop keeper will submit those such collected phone and submit for recycle mobile websites and

get more value than what he offered me, ofcourse i could have done the same, but was not

knowing about any websites, actually. There are lot of websites of such.!
