Nokia merges multiple personalities

INTERNATIONAL – No, this isn’t quack psychology, but rather news of Nokia’s new roll-out of a universal login across its multiple Internet services. Simply called Nokia Account, this is one of those subtle changes that will evolve and expand over time, stretching from the likes of Ovi to N-Gage and beyond, but more significant is what it means for us as users and looking forwards.
Of course bringing all your accounts under one umbrella account makes it ultra simple to keep your online Nokia existence in check, much like your Google or Yahoo accounts. But more importantly this simple unification is represents a subtle milestone for Nokia’s new era of online services, highlighted by CEO Olli-Pekka Kallasvuo in his speech at the Nokia Annual General meeting back in May, and echoed with the recent completion of the NAVTEQ and Trolltech deals.
The new universal Nokia Account, lets you have a single User ID and password that you’ll be able to use across multiple services and even combine your existing accounts on other services without losing your details.

When I read the headline, I thought about something contradictory: How to make it easier to share a mobile phone between multiple users (e.g. in a family), as is common practise for less affluent users in developing countries. Or the “switch mode” function in the Nokia e71 that allows you to manage different settings if you’re one to avoid blurring boundaries between job and private life.
Anyway, I think single sign-on on for Nokia web services is the right thing to do. Like all good experience design, it’s more of a “hygiene factor”, though – I’d estimate that users will like it once it’s there and accept it as a given, but Nokia might not receive much praise from users for unifying their service infrastructure. It just takes the clutter of several passwords and procedures off the users’ minds, and that’s to be lauded.

Boy..! First Symbian Setting free and Now Nokia Account, What is going on guys?
on the whole this simplifies things, from registering your cell phone to shopping for a new one to using Nokia Chat… the future looks promising…

hi this is a nice move that nokia is making wat is bothering people the most is remebering passwords usernames etc with everything happening online it has become so diffficult to rem the passwords it becomes a mess atleast nokia has adressed this problem with the nokia account bravo nokia bravo
