Video: Ovi… how do you say it?

By Mike on 29 July 2008

INTERNATIONAL – It’s one of those peculiar words. The Finnish word for door, “Ovi“, can sound soft, strong or strange depending on where you come from, where you’re living, your cultural influences, and a multitude of other factors. I thought everyone I knew would say it pretty much the same way, so I asked a bunch of them. Turned out I couldn’t have been more wrong.

Of course its subtle and subconscious, but surely how we say something and how we hear it in our head can influence how we feel towards anything, even product or a service. Anyway, here’s my short video of people in my life, living in London, saying “Ovi“…

In case you were wondering how it’s ’supposed’ to be pronounced, here’s how…

I’ve posted this short video on Share on Ovi as well as our YouTube channels, and we’d be really interested to hear how you say it response on our YouTube channel.

    > “Ovi is pronounced with a short ‘o’, like in Nokia.”

That doesn’t clear things up too much as there’s plenty of people, particularly in the US (including Nokia folk) who pronounce Nokia as “Know-kia” not “Knock-ia” :)

So, how about a video or audio of the correct way to pronouce Ovi and Nokia? :)

    Now am happy
we pronounce (Knock-ia) well in Iraq and Arab gulf.
These applications are really useful but what make it limited in community is the large people proportion buy Nseries and it dont has QWERTY key board…or they force there self to be business man and buy Eseries even they are Studients…we beg from 5 years Nokia please make Nseries device with QWERTY.

@hugo – Baiting us? Heh. We do have a recording (YES!) but I’d like to get a better one, especially one that doesn’t embarrass anyone.

Ammar, u don’t have to beg for anything. When Nokia gets to the next level of intelligence, they’ll see that they could ship much more devices if they had Eseries and Nseries in just one “Series”. Why can’t I play n-gage games with my E65?? for god sakes
