Files on Ovi officially goes live

By Mike on 01 August 2008

INTERNATIONAL - The beta service was released at the beginning of July, but today sees Files on Ovi shed its beta skin and go full-blown official.

In case you missed it, Files on Ovi is a new service for any Internet-ready mobile phone that enables you to share documents, PDFs, music, photos and more between your PC and your handset.

The idea is that you remotely access the content stored on your home machine, and share pretty much any sort of file with your friends or family via your mobile. Plus, you can even set it up so you can access files when your PC isn’t online or is sleeping, thanks to a feature called Anytime Files - these are backed up remotely on an online server that you can tap into regardless of what you’re PC is doing.

You get two options when it comes to storage - either a 10GB package or 30GB deal. It’s kick-starting with a 30-day free trial, but in terms of how much the service will cost after that here’s the breakdown of the annual costs:

US dollars - 10GB $79.99 or 30GB $149.99
Euros - 10GB €49.99 or 30GB €99.99
GBP - 10GB £39.99 or 30GB £74.99

I’m considering subscribing to an Anytime package. The lack of Linux and Mac support is holding me back for now though.
