Video: WebMessenger connects the mobile workforce

By James on 21 August 2008

GLOBAL – Over the last year or so, Instant Messaging has become as essential a tool in our working day as email. Throw the new E71 into the mix and the desire to take that tool mobile is quite high. Enter the next candidate from the Forum Nokia Innovation Series. WebMessenger Mobile is a tidy little app that’ll connect you to all the major IM services. What’s more, it can also form the backbone of enterprise level IM services, helping big companies keep their workforce truly connected.

I’ve just been having a little play and it’s so easy to get up and running. The app runs natively on S60 3rd edition devices, sucking in contacts from your device, as well as any service you’re on. What makes Web Messenger stand out though is the enterprise aspect.

The company offers a range of solutions that enable companies to take their messaging mobile. Small businesses can opt for a fully-managed solution, in the event they don’t already have a system in place. Larger companies can simply mobilise existing services and WebMessenger offers a range of connectivity options to easily plugin to other systems including Microsoft Live Communication Server, Oracle Collaboration Suite and Lotus Sametime.

Given how easy WebMessenger makes integration I reckon this is a huge boon for mobile workers. Frequently they’re left out in the cold when it comes to things like IM, simply because the infrastructure isn’t in place.

Joe Naylor, president of WebMessenger talks about how they brought the product to S60, and how they worked with Forum Nokia

Great application! Although you mention features similar to MSN; its more targeted towards IBM’s SameTime Server; which is VERY good company to be in. How will this application integrate into IntelliSync components?! Seems Nokia is really focusing on S60 & IntelliSync futures! ;)

    Bravo,
