Viva España!

By James on 30 September 2008

SPAIN – With more than 70 per cent of the music purchased in the country being local, the addition of the Nokia Music Store for Spanish music fans should be something of a boon, given many of the 4 million tracks on offer come from local artists.

Spain is the latest country to join the Nokia Music Store ranks and the local search can differentiate between local genres such as Flamenco, Latin music and more. La Oreja de Van Gogh, Pereza, Melendi, Amaral, Deluxe, Krakovia, Coti, Ismael Serrano, Extromoduro and Miguel Bosé are just some of the artists on offer from the now. The Nokia Music Store in Spain will also be the first time these artists’ work will be available via a streaming service, though tracks and albums are also available to buy.

The continued drive for localisation can’t but help the Nokia Music Store. Ensuring every country gets the kind of music its most interested in is a sure way to some level of success. What I’d like to see though, is that music then being made available internationally, to create a global catalogue. I’ve lived away from home for 17 years and being able to buy music from home, whilst away, would be ace. With licensing restrictions though, it’s unlikely to become the case any time soon. Shame.

Despite this service is not available to my country (Portugal), I find Nokia Music Store service much easier to deal with than iTunes for example, so I love goign there and spending hours listening to the songs I love and even finding new artists!
