Nokia 5800 XpressMusic in brief
By James on 02 October 2008
LONDON, England – Announced alongside the Comes With Music service today is one of the first new devices to use the service, the 5800 XpressMusic.
It’s packed with a wealth of new features and functionality including more memory, loud powerful speakers, easy synchronisation and touch screen technology.
The 5800 brings in some new navigational features too, through the use of a ‘Media Bar’ and touch screen technology. The Media Bar enables fast and easy access to music, pictures, video and the Internet.
8GB provides enough storage for about 6,000 tracks along with support for all the main digital formats. You can also use your own headphones thanks to the standard 3.5mm jack whilst two speakers throw up stereo sound.
Like the Media Bar, the all-new Contacts Bar brings to life your favourite contacts. Users can highlight four favourite contacts and track all texts, emails, phone logs, photos and blog updates for those contacts. It’s being dubbed a “digital RSS feed on your life”.
The 5800 XpressMusic is all about bringing innovative new features to the mass market. With touch screen tech, the Media Bar and Contacts Bar this new device is breaking some serious ground, given that it also packs in a 3.2 megapixel camera, 3.2-inch widescreen display and can shoot and play video at 30 frames per second.
Virtual keyboards are on offer for inputting whilst the touchscreen accepts input from fingers, stylus or – for true music fans – the included plectrum.
Shipping begins in the fourth quarter of 2008 with an estimate retail price of EU279 before taxes and subsidies. The Comes With Music edition is expected to be on sale early next year.
