Engaging with the future of N-Gage

By Mike on 27 October 2008

ROME, Italy – It’s the Nokia Games Summit this week (29-30 October) in the Italian capital, and as well as  marking the announcement the Mobile Games Innovation Challenge winners, it’s also the perfect excuse to gather all the leading minds in mobile gaming to show off and discuss the plans for the future of this fast-evolving fun-focussed field.

Speaking on Wednesday morning will be Tero Ojanperä, VP of Entertainment and Communities at Nokia. He’s been crucial in Nokia pushing the envelope when it comes to interactivity and social networking in mobile media – Reset Generation being a great testament to this – so you couldn’t ask for a more informed influential speaker to kick things off.

It’s not all in-house of course, and leading games publishers Electronic Arts will have a strong presence at the summit, with Executive Producers Chris Gibbs and Worldwide OEM director Peter Parmenter giving a third party perspective on N-Gage so far.

Mobile developers get their chance to shine at the Awards Dinner on Wednesday night, which celebrates the hard work put in by all of the Mobile Games Innovation Challenge entrants, and rewards one team with a €40,000 prize.

The final panel discussion of the summit will see developers talking about “breaking the borders of mobile gaming” – and with games such as Watchers, which integrates Nokia Maps into gameplay, on the Innovations shortlist, we can’t wait to hear what everyone has to say on the subject.

Can’t be there? You can see the full line-up here, and give your two cents on the future of gaming on Nokia in the comments below. We’ll be reporting on the highlights and the winners later this week, so stay tuned
