I have too many phones, identify and comment
By Charlie on 03 November 2008
ESPOO, Finland – I’d been waiting a long time to be given an N85 and an E71 (that weren’t prototypes). Yeah, you’d think phones would be growing on trees here in Nokia Central, but that isn’t so. You still need a rock solid business reason (to buy one) and the right connections (to get one from the marketing stash) to land a phone here.
Well, all of a sudden, I get an N85 and E71 just when I make the decision to start using a Nokia 1209 as part of the The 1100 Club. Now I have too many phones and will be using the simplest of them all.
Here is a photo off all my phones that I have recently used. Like previous phones, most are going to be returned to the company stash (especially the 5800, which is a prototype) and recycled (I’ll be back to the E71 and N85 after the Club 1100 fun). And, no, don’t ask for them, since they are not mine to give (yeah, that is one of the catches with our phones, they always belong to the company).
So, can you identify them? Are you swamped with many phones or forced to have at least two? Isn’t it a mess keeping them all in sync and charged and and, and, and… well, you comment.

I’ve currently got the N95-3, N82, E71, and N96 that I swap my SIM in and out of. The E90 is setup still, but I don’t often use it, anymore.
Most of what I need is easily in sync. Once you install your apps and whatnot, it’s easy to swap back and forth. A quick BT sync and I’m out the door. Thanks to Nokia Email, that’s in sync, too, regardless of which phone I’m on.
The only thing that really gives me any trouble is the Jaiku S60 app, as it insists on downloading somewhere around the past 48 hours of updates. Thus, if I’ve not used a phone in a few days, I’m going to suck down some serious battery just updating that.
I install all my apps to the internal memory, and just use the memory card for media and whatnot, so it’s easily swapped into whatever phone, just the same as my SIM.

I carry around just one phone, the N95 8GB. I only have one SIM card but four(older) phones that I keep because of their sentimental value.
Since you have the 5800, I was wondering if you could do a post on its TV-Out functionality? I hope it’s better than the N95’s. Speaking of TV-Out, do you know what happened to the NoBounds project at Nokia?
Thanks.

Well Charlie, it’s not hard to identify your phones
The only phone which I wouldn’t recognize normally, is the N85 – but the E71, N95 and 5800 all have easy to spot sides. The 1209 could be mixed with series-2 phones, though.
I have a simple life now – a lot of phones passed by me in the past, but I haven’t changed my phone in 1-year (quite a heroic performance, according to my wife and my bank manager) – so I’m still using my N95 8GB.

I’m swapping in and out of the E71 and N95 8GB at them moment. I don’t really have sync issues, as mail and contacts are all done via MailForExchange with my company’s server. Images are sometimes a problem, but I can bluetooth the occasional images or file over if I want it. Charging…not a problem if I’m using the E71…it goes and goes. My main problem is that when I’m using one phone, I miss the features of the other, I just wish Nokia would come up with a solid feeling N-Series with qwerty.
As far as ID’ing the phones…you should have NOT had a larger picture come up and see who could do it with that little thumbnail image

Hello Charlie,
Well, I can only recognize the N95 in the middle of the stack!
I am using N95 and E90 most of the time. Sync is the best boon! But sometimes I end up with duplicate entries of few contacts and hence their number is shown unknown when they call me

Lol it’s definitely a task having more than one mobile… but their is a reason that I carry 3. My N82 because nothing beats that Xenon flash and clear picture quality!! The E71 because its just so easy to message. The N96 because thats what I’m testing at the moment… and if I happen to be driving I add the N78 to the mix simply because I love using the FM tuner in the car and letting my playlists blast! Unfortunately at this moment all of my N-Gage games are on my N95 8GB and I switch that out with the N96 if I’m in a gaming mood.
Syncing is a big issue for me because I want to make sure that all devices have the same information. Since I use a Mac I’ve finally gotten the hang of making sure each day I sync my devices with any new or updated info.

Mr X,
I don’t know what the NoBounds project was.
Played with the video out a bit. Nothing special. Works as easily as with our other phones that have this.
