Best of 2008 in Environment – Recycling

GLOBAL – There is no doubt that the past few years have seen a resurgence in environmental consciousness from consumers and businesses. And, indeed, Nokia has been working hard to expand all their recycling activities. Ranging from access to awareness to a cool video (see after jump), it’s been a banner year for mobile phone recycling.

Part of what we have been reporting on is how Nokia is making it easier for users to find places to recycle their mobiles. Nokia has even increased the visibility of the recycling centers in our offices, too. But Nokia has been working hard in the past year to increase awareness of mobile phone recycling, starting off with a survey that got picked up by a ton of publications.

And, if we may toot our own horn, huzzah for Nokia!

But don’t just take it from me. One measure of our success is the Greenpeace Guide to Greener Electronics report (which are a bit too frequent). Nokia always ranks high or top based on their various criteria.

Finally, for me, the best part of all the stories we covered about recycling was the great recycling video, showing how we crunch, analyze, and recycle mobile phones in one of our recycling facilities.

And here it is again:
