ENGLAND, UK – I opened this morning’s edition of The Sun newspaper to find myself greeted with an image of a large fish with a Nokia 1600 poking out of its mouth. As you can imagine the story behind this bizarre image is just as strange, and turns out to be somewhat of a testament to the fortitude of many Nokia devices. The Sun reported that a Nokia 1600 was found inside the belly of a 25lb cod caught out at sea by a suitably surprised fisherman – even more surprising was the fact that the phone still worked and was able to make phone calls.

Read on for the full fishy details of what happened, and to post your comments on this stranger than fiction survival story.

ESPOO, Finland – Yesterday, I had fun talking with folks about the new Ovi Theme. The theme was well received and I hope the Ovi team comes out with more fun stuff. I think they are just too modest and quiet, trying to cautiously deliver in an area that is new and growing for Nokia.

In the course of the discussion, folks were talking about three other things: a mobile medicine guide, a CEO from a large mobile device manufacturer discussing netbooks, and a new Twitter app in final rounds of a private beta (which sparked a thought). And it’s these three things I want to spread to the rest of you, so read on.

GLOBAL – Four times in the last 10 days, things that I deal with on a daily (hourly, sometimes continuous) basis have run out of memory. There was the server that hosts this very site (sorry!), my laptop (so small at its launch it was pulled out of a manila envelope) and my phone. With our computers, we sometimes expect it. Over ambitious in our use of applications on our computers (I discovered that I had, hidden in the dock, some 30+ websites open, amongst pretty much every useful app I have on the machine) we tend to occasionally ask more than they’re capable of delivering. For our poor server it was some bad settings, some rogue scripts and the sudden excitement of our readership that combined to take us out. For my phone, similar to my laptop I was simply trying to do too much at once.

ESPOO, Finland – I know folks like our roundups of stuff we find interesting. Alas, video production, events, travel, and the like, all seem to get in the way. Also, we dropped our bookmark list from the main page, and have still to figure out where it should go (we were not sure how many folks were actually following our delicious feed).

Nonetheless, I would like to highlight two people who have written a few things that currently have captured my thoughts and I feel compelled to share with you. So read on to be enightened.

GLOBAL – One of the world’s best-selling board games, Monopoly, is set to hit N-Gage handsets next week. Monopoly Here & Now: The World Edition by EA will be available to download and to celebrate it’s going to be available for the first month with 30 per cent off. When the game was first announced on N-Gage.com last month, there was plenty of excitement. But that’s no surprise, given the game’s global nature, and appeal. I know i’m pretty excited about getting my hands on it.

GLOBAL – Earlier today a new beta version of Ovi Contacts was made available on the Nokia Beta Labs site. The S60 3rd FP2 version promises to run a lot smoother and offer a much slicker experience, according to Kristian Luoma, Product Manager for Ovi Contacts.

He posted a piece on the Beta Labs blog this morning explaining what to expect from the new version, and champions the Beta Labs community in the face of horrible hiccups. Read on for highlights, plus find out how you can help improve Ovi Contacts.

ESPOO, Finland – Folks have been abuzz about an Ovi theme making the rounds. Well, there was a theme that the Ovi team has been working on and it reached a point where they told me I could release it (or I think they did).

Roman and Marco showed some screenshots earlier, but I guess that no one seems to have the file (just saw Roman’s download link). Well, of course, being good folk, we offer it here for you to download (see link below).
