Oh, one more important "pro" for the universal charger I intended to mention: When I'm travelling, currently I'd be packing about six chargers with me for AC & 12V DC charging of different devices, wouldn't mind trading those for just one (or two for AC & car) charger. Too bad laptops aren't likely to be USB-chargable anytime soon:(

"Opting for mini USB is sensible as it is already…. Universal."

Mini USB might be already universal but the one we're talking about is Micro USB.. How many have you seen?

Well, Micro is smaller and more durable than Mini so there are good reasons to make it the Standard and this switchover could never have happened after Mini USB would have been standardised as The One data & power connector.

here's another thought: who doesn't have a USB hub or USB port on their computer? why not use that to charge your phone while at the office or at home?

standards are good for the consumer. You don't think twice about buying a 5mm nut in Bombay and a 5mm bolt in Podunk, Idaho. They work together. Ubiquitous personal electronics like iPods, cellphones, GPS units, etc... could and should use a universal charging solution. Opting for mini USB is sensible as it is already.... Universal.

I think this is one of the most intelligent ideas someone had since some years ago. Yes it is, anyone can only see benefits with this to happen, mainly these 2:

1st: you spend less money when you're buying a new mobile phone, because you don't have to pay the charger (because you already have one which will work in this new device also);
2nd: environment says Thank You to us. Much less plastic will be necessary, so it means much less pollution.

Don't you guys agree? Why did this took so long to come out? ;)
