Here’s that Ovi theme
By Charlie on 26 February 2009
ESPOO, Finland – Folks have been abuzz about an Ovi theme making the rounds. Well, there was a theme that the Ovi team has been working on and it reached a point where they told me I could release it (or I think they did).
Roman and Marco showed some screenshots earlier, but I guess that no one seems to have the file (just saw Roman’s download link). Well, of course, being good folk, we offer it here for you to download (see link below).
Icons and sounds
The theme has the Ovi icons, which we spoke about last year when they came out on Ovi.com and the Nokia 5800 XpressMusic. The theme also has its own ring and message tones, so go check them out.
What the theme also has is a wee Easter Egg. I won’t give any hints at the moment, except to say that it is visual. Feel free to guess and search and let us know what you find. If I don’t hear that folks are finding the Egg, then I’ll start posting hints here in the comments.
Is that wicked of me?
UPDATE: Gah. Now realizing that everyone knew of the screen saver. I’m so slow.
Screenshots
The theme is called “Ovi Blue.” There was a green version making rounds, but the Ovi folks decided to pass on that. Could have been cool to have one for the main Ovi colours, blue, green, pink, and yellow, but I guess Blue will have to do for now.
Download it here
And for those who have been patient enough to read to here, the link to the file: Ovi_blue.sis (for S60 3.1 and 3.2 devices).
Enjoy.
Screenshots taken with Antony Pranata’s “Screenshot”
UPDATES: Rita, at Symbian-Guru also writes about this theme. As does Abhista. (and this wall all kicked off by the inestimable James Whatley)

Great looking theme. Only thing that bothers me is that the little intellisync mail icons in the standby-screen are suddenly calendar icons. Also, the (sms) notifications are not transparent, like the new official nokia red and black themes are.

Great theme, but why is the text colour black in some menus instead of white like in the rest of the theme.

Ooh, pink and yellow would’ve been nice! Please tell the Ovi team to release the green version, and to work on the yellow and pink one
brown and red would be cool too :p

Nice theme but a few icons are missing (can they be fixed at all)
WLAN wizard
Music Folder and no doubt other folders
And whats with the dot in the middle of the clock, the clock hands don’t even align to it, it would look better if it wasn’t there.
A nice theme that could be great if these few things could be sorted out.

@Mr G, Yeah. A few icon were not completed, and don’t know when or if,so we released the theme anyway. Is that OK?

@charlie, i’d love a version without the dot in the middle of the analogue clock, the icons i can live with as they can be moved out of sight.
I really really would love a version with no dot in the clock ;o)

@cocokiss, the theme has been designed for S60 3.x devices but it installs on 5.x devices such as the 5800 XpressMusic with some glitches as you pointed out

@Rich: If you have trouble with the installation and get the ‘Certificate Error’ message (happens e.g. on E71) try this:
Go to: Menu – Installations – App Manager – Options – Settings and set Online certificate check to “Off” and Software installations to “All”
At least for the E71 this works

Thanks, but that theme sucks.
Dialog boxes are ugly, some icons are missing, some menus are the wrong color text, the top bar doesn’t match on E71, and the provided tones are way too soft.
The icon set shows some promise tho.

After installing. every time i restart my N81 says: impossible to install ecc…, but the theme still working.
How can I do to stop this boring message at the startup?
THX!

The theme is nice but is affected by the 5800 firmware bug, wherein most themes don’t work fully in apps with tabs (e.g. Contacts). If you could mention this to the teams?

@Steve Litchfield, The theme has been designed for S60 3.x devices which could be also causing the issue.

@Mr G, Not forgotten. But I have no idea if they are going to add the icons that are missing.
Any icon in particular that’s bugging you?

@charlie, here are the icons that aren’t changed
WLAN wizard
Utilities Folder
Music Folder
I know there aren’t many but it will make this very nice theme even better in my opinion.
Also would it be possible for the dot in the middle of the analogue clock to be removed as it doesn’t allign to the clock hands at all, just don’t look right.
Thanks for replying Charlie.

Igor a few posts down has some icons that need to be changed too.

Cracking theme, good job ovi guys!
It’s a shame that Mr. G feels the need to constantly moan about it as it feels far more “finished” than many other themes out there.
Perhaps if people didn’t moan we might see more official themes released from nokia in the future.
It would be great if nokia released their back catalogue of model exclusive themes for download.

@themer,
I think you’ll find that i just want this theme to be better then it currently is, whats wrong in that i ask?
Whats wrong with having all the icons changed to OVI icons, other themers (Flahorn, Nahid, Danni, ICEman etc etc) can do it so why can’t Nokia?
Also ‘themer’, i have most if not all of the S60 3RD EDITION themes from older and present Nokia devices, they aren’t hard to find!

I really like this theme, but the screensaver is the wrong orientation for N95. Does anyone know if there is a 320×240 (not 240×320) version of the screensaver that I could download.
Thanks.

The OVI Blue theme is very beautiful, I like it very much. But there are bugs when I installed it in my 5800XM! If there is anyone can correct, it should be appreciated!
