Poll results: Your favourite Nokia products and services of Mobile World Congress
By Mike on 03 March 2009
GLOBAL – It’s only a little over a week since the doors to Mobile World Congress were officially shut for another year, the scene of a bunch of exciting new Nokia products and services for 2009.
We ran a poll to ask you to vote for your favourite announcement. Hundreds of you got involved, so a huge thanks for getting stuck in, and now the votes have been counted. Click through to find out what won, and what Nokia products and services you and your fellow Conversations readers are most excited about for 2009. Drumroll please…
Securing the top slot with 21 per cent of the vote is the Ovi Store. Nokia’s upcoming mobile apps store has triggered an inspiring response across the web and here on Conversations. As an app obsessive myself it’s inspiring (and a little comforting) to see so many of you eager to further explore the depths of your devices using apps, fueled and sustained via a service such as the Ovi Store. More significantly, this result also helps highlight an interesting general shift in our perceptions as mobile users, in what’s traditionally a hardware-orientated scene – for a mobile service to capture the imagination and interest of the majority of you is a hugely encouraging and progressive sign, echoing Nokia’s vision for the future.
The Nokia E55 and Nokia N86 8MP share second place, each with 19 per cent of the vote. Here’s a full rundown of the results:
Ovi Store – 21%
Nokia E55 – 19%
Nokia N86 8MP – 19%
Nokia E75 – 14%
Skype and Nokia – 12%
Universal Charging Solution – 10%
Nokia 6720 Classic – 4%
Nokia 6710 Navigator – 2%
Or if you prefer your poll results pie-shaped, here’s a chart breaking it all down.
What are your thoughts on these results, and the fact that the Ovi Store has landed the top slot as your collective favourite announcement of Mobile World Congress? Jot down your comments below.

Good win for the ovi store but who on earth would vote for the N86???
It’s just another re-hashed model thats almost a year behind it’s competitors.

@bongo,
I voted for the N86 as I think it’s actually the next logical step up from my personal favourite handset, the N95 8GB.
Would you mind qualifying your statement?
How is it a ‘rehash’ and how is it ‘almost a year behind its competitiors’ ?
Intrigued to know

@James Whatley,
it’s a rehash as it’s yet another dual slider (N95, N95 8GB, N96, N85) that differs very little from it’s predecessors. It may be a logical step to you but it’s getting tiring seeing tweaked versions of the N95 released every six to nine months (or so) that add very little overall.
In all honesty what can you say is new about the N86 other than it’s optics? In some ways it’s a step back from the N82, unless you’ve swallowed the “3rd gen LEDs” hype.
The competition is using xenon, optical zoom, touchscreens, face recognition and a whole host of other features to make images better. Marketing the N86 as a camera phone whilst it’s lacking all of these features is a joke.
The more of these rehashes that nokia release the more of their market share they lose. They’ve lived off the N95’s former glory for too long now.
If they had released the N86 with S60v5, xenon and some more camera-centric features then it would have been an interesting prospect.

I’m not agree with you. Face recognition is pure gadget for me. Xenon flash does not make everything even in low light conditions.
But wide angle optics, large and variable aperture, high speed shutter, wide exposure range are for me innovative and I think that, even with only a dual led flash, the Nokia N86 8 MP will allow to capture good pictures even in low light conditions.Ok there are other products with 12 megapixels lens but for a mobile device it’s almost ridiculous. Even with a Xenon flash because optic doesn’t change. For me I prefer a Nokia N86 8 MP
rather (for example) than the last one SE megapixels 12,1…Everybody swears only by the Xenon flash, it becomes really annoying…
