Twitter on S60 just got a little better

By JBC on 31 March 2009

GLOBAL – It is by all accounts the Twitter app to beat all Twitter apps, and at first glance Gravity appears to be just that. We wrote about it a few weeks ago when it was in closed beta (on the back of Symbian Guru’s musings) and it showed all the signs then of being something special. Well, I’ve just joined the throngs and downloaded the trial. If you use Twitter at all, I suggest you do the same. The interface is one of the nicest I’ve seen and used and it’s fast too, much faster than my previous (now defunct) Twitter phone app.

Okay, I’ve just played with it a little more so I can write a more informed post and I’m completely bowled over. This Twitter app is better than online and computer-based Twitter apps I’ve used (yes, even the big one everyone else uses).

I’m not going to go into all the features here, as that’ll turn it into a review (it would be five stars). What strikes me though is we’re seeing here a level of usability on an S60 app that is not only on a par with desktop apps, but in some way trumps them.

Slick transitions, instantly obvious usability and genuinely useful features all combine to make this an app that’ll soak up your time, even when you’re at home. Is it a sign of things to come? I sure hope so. Forum Nokia has been working its socks off to make development for S60 an easier and more effective process and it seems to be working (the guys from Mobileways are active on Forum Nokia support forums).

Right, I’m off. If you need me, you’ll find me on Twitter. Meanwhile here’s a video of the beta (which isn’t nearly as good as the real deal!).

Download Gravity from MobileWays.de – Trial is free for 10 days, but then it’s €7.78 (Out of interest, what do you think of the price?)

@Justin Berkovi, Justin, I’d give the guys a MobileWays a shout – I’ve been running it on my E71 all day without a problem.

@Carlos Silva, I don’t think I can make direct recommendations on here (see the story above, it says it isn’t a review), but I would suggest you try it as it’s free with full functionality for 10 days.

gravity came out of nowhere and thanks to already popular services became the ‘talk of the town’ for twitter and such users. why do we have this app again……….right and on top of that we have to pay for it. think not unless someone actually proves to me that there is a great benefit in having the app over anything else that is out there, especially free. is it a matter of convenience that keeps on drawing us in….? perhaps its that simple.
