Nokia N86 – TIPA Best Mobile Imaging Device 2009
By JBC on 17 April 2009
GLOBAL – It’s only been a couple of months since the Nokia N86 8MP was unveiled, but already it’s bagged a prestigious industry award from TIPA (Technical Image Press Association). Picking up the Best Mobile Imaging Device in 2009, the N86 has instantly made a splash amongst what is viewed in photography as one of the most influential organisations.
This is great news for the N86 8MP. And of course, imaging is what the device is all about. With eight megapixels to play with, big crisp images are the order of the day. But it isn’t just about pixel count. The device also packs a wide angle Carl Zeiss Tessar lens, which enables users to shoot panoramic shots. Every snap can be Geotagged and it’s easy to upload them to online photo sharing sites such as Ovi or Flickr.
The awards, set up by TIPA member magazines, cover a wide range of photography related products. Editors from each magazine form the General Assembly which then decides which products are considered for voting. Innovation, cutting edge technology, design, ergonomics, ease-of-use, price and performance are all taken into consideration during the judging and voting process. Only one product in each category is chosen annually to carry the award badge.
Sure, this is a bit of drum beating, but we’re really pleased for the team behind the N86 8MP.

Way to go ! I still think no xenon flash on this thing is a major miss though.

@Cj, i agree. Its the reason the n82 was so amazingly popular. We always expected xenon from that point on and sadly we never got it. Hopefully we will find out if wide angle lens(more light absorbed) and 3rd generation LED makes up for the missing xenon. LED is still better than xenon in video recording tho.

Fully agree with you – major disappointment. Think I’ll hold on to my N82 a while longer.
Do you know if there are other 8MP “Cameraphones” on it’s way with a proper Xenon flash? From Nokia or others?

That is ridiculous. Is this phone released? Embarassing news.
Too bad the editors of Conversation don’t have some minimum of common sense. Good luck at licking a…s.
