What makes a flagship device – vote now!
By JBC on 21 April 2009
We’ve had some fantastic responses to yesterday’s “what makes a flagship device?” starter story – thanks for all your comments. We’ve now pulled together the most consistent input to a single poll, so we can establish the running order of priorities. Some surprises hit us through the comments, particularly the number of times affordability came up, which was interesting given it’s typical for flagship devices to have all the features (thus making them less affordable). I might have thought design would crop up more, too, but specs and innovation seem to be the order of the day. Anyway, we want to know what everyone thinks, so check out the poll after the jump and get voting!
Okay, first some ground rules. We’ve made the poll multiple choice, but please try and pick ONLY your THREE most important topics. That way we can establish an ordered list more fairly. We’ll be back tomorrow with the first results, so without further ado – here’s the vote:

I think having the n97 as the next flagship is 90% true..10% not because of its low reso 5mp cam.Although it will capture high quality video still the 5mp with its average dled flash is a bad side for some. But n97 is better in entertainment than this idou and i8910HD..^^ hope i can afford it..haha

Guys, you have to select most expensive, because you don’t expect companies to give you things for free do you? What you’re saying is contradicting, you want the best and pay nothing, that will never happen.

@ming387, you might want to add some caveats to your claim there. The most expensive phone that Nokia offers is the 8800 Gold Arte, so… feel free to finish that thought.
PS: AND, there’s the poll numbers…

@leo, I heard what you’re saying but I’m really refering “More Expensive” due to the cost of pastic/metal and techincal components to built a technically advance device.
You do have a point on valueable metal and jewelery type phones. Putting a few diamonds on a device will make the price over $1000 USD but does not make a device a flagship.
I’m seeing people click “affordable” that is really contradicting the idea of flagship.
Hope I’m making sense

the omniaHD seems more like a flagship compared to the N97. the 5mpx camera has been used by N95 since like.. what.. 10 years ago?
how can the 2009 flagship device use the same camera as the n95?
3.7″ screen : breakthough
HD recording : breakthrough
AMOLED screen : sort of breakthrough

@smashpOp, ur ryt dude..but d design and software for n97 is a break through.
Customization (softwares): breakthrough
Design(qwerty/tilt etc) : breakthrough
In my opinion i8910hd is more better than n97 unless the qwerty is not need in big big manner.
even SE Idou is a breakthrough for a 12mp mobile camera.
I wish the n83 will be announce soon

N97 is a true flagship because it has everything you want on it. Touched, QWERTY, services, features. A flagship cannot stand with specs alone like omnia HD and idou.. it must have all the elements on it. no less..

Seems like N97 is not that strong a handset, what a shame!

Please make the BH 905 available in South Africa? I not only want it, I NEED it urgently as I work in a very noisy environment and normal ear protection is not sufficient
