Developing applications for S60 using Qt software

By JBC on 11 May 2009

MONACO, Monte Carlo – Last week we brought you a selection of videos from the inaugural Nokia Developer Summit in Monaco. Benoit Schillings and Thiago Macieira from Qt software gave us some insight into how they’ve been providing developer tools to create new apps for S60. We’ve now got the second part of their interview where they reveal some interesting stuff about what’s coming up in future versions of Qt. Right now developers can use the developer version of Qt for S60 to create mobile apps. Soon though, developers will be able to use the main version of Qt, which will enable them to easily recompile an application created for the desktop, or another mobile platform, to work on S60. They’ll also be able to combine the best of C++ and DHTML to create mixed applications. This will break down the barriers between traditional applications and widgets, making the former a better, and lighter, user experience and making the latter even more engaging and compelling. For users, that means an even wider range of apps and widgets, with potentially previously unthought of functionality. Exciting times ahead then! Check out the two video interviews with Benoit and Thiago after the jump.
