Video poll – What’s your perfect mobile input interface? QWERTY, touchscreen, voice command…?

By Mike on 11 May 2009

GLOBAL – Some thought the proliferation of touchscreen phones, such as the Nokia 5800, would mark the demise of the trusty key-push QWERTY keypad. Nothing could be further from the truth, with QWERTY input interfaces proving extremely relevant both on the starch-shirted end of the spectrum with the Nokia E71 and the low-slung-jeaned scene with the keenly awaited Nokia 5730 XpressMusic.

Of course your ideal method of communicating with your device entirely depends on what you need to achieve, but whether you’re purely a texter, or an all-calling, all-surfing, all app-downloading sort of user, we want to know what your ideal set-up is.

We’ve even spiced things up a bit on the poll front by adding in some video examples. Click through and click now to ensure your vote is counted.

voice is the next frontier; what could be more convenient than just telling the phone what to do; and having it take dictation for texting and emails??? voice command works pretty good in some winmo phones i’ve used, but my nokia e66 is a bit dicey.

I like the qwerty + touch coz it feels comfortable and very easy to use and accurate. The problem is having both functions to a phone brings expensive price.Z^^

HI I’ve voted for the N97 type. However it also seems that Navigation key in N97 is placed at the far left instead of the right which ergonomically speaking hampers fast scrolling from the menu, not if one is using the touch too often instead of the Navikey. I am expecting the N97 to sell 100,000-150,000 units in India which is not bad for a high-end Nokia but bad enough for Nokia to fill in the tech-crazy public around with the-all inclusive Mobile. Only if it is priced at less than Rs.25,000 ($515) within the first 9 mths of the launch will the sales pick up beyond 75000 units.

i too voted for N97 .. 5800 touchscreen is good but it needs a real keypad like the N97

I have used the htc g1 and htc touch pro which are using the qwerty+touch concept

    Best in terms of usability
