Video: Nokia N97 is shipping, and we have proof!
By Charlie on 02 June 2009
SALO, Finland – The big news today is that the Nokia N97 is on the move, on the way to shops in 75 countries. It’s really exciting news and, as we usually do, we wanted to capture it on video. Carita, from the Nokia Conversations team, was invited to the Nokia factory in Salo, in southwest Finland, where she was able to watch the Nokia N97 be assembled.
In the video (see below), you can follow Carita’s progress as she follows the Nokia N97 from the assembly table, through packaging, to crating, inspection, batch testing, and onto pallets on the truck.
We think this is probably the first time Nokia has shown any device being manufactured in its factory. We hope you enjoy it!
The Nokia N97 being made at the factory
We also want to thank all the folks at the factory for being so helpful during the filming.

@giovani even if any us carrier picks it up its going to be worthless buying from them. Look at what happened with Nokia E71 att turned it in to a Nokia E71x I was looking forward to it and got it. Guess what I cant even hear the ringtone if its on my desk and I am sitting on my desk. Proprietary crap will be bloaded on it. So, its for the best interest that you get it unbranded.
I am looking forward to mine.

@Ankit, u are spot on. E71 is a superb phone, but I bet ATT doesnt even install a SIP client on it (E71 is known to support SIP quite well). Since Apple has a tight leash on ATT, they havent mucked with the iPhone from a UI perspective, but ATT calls the shots when it comes to APPs. (look at what Skype does on the iphone !)

@Bill, Some of the higher-end phones require more manual work. That’s in contrast to the lower-end phones that fly off the production lines in huge numbers.

@Ray, I hope you do get it before others. If not, make sure you complain to the Club Nokia folks.

@Ray, Good news. I was asking around and seems like they are full-filling the pre-orders as we speak, as fast as they can.
Lemme know when you get yours!

Quoth the Nseries blog: “It will be shipped direct to your door from the production line so you’ll have it the same day it hits the stores in your country.” We’re really hoping you guys weren’t lying about this one.

New York Flagship Store: “Hey Nokia Fans we just got a Nokia N97 final retail box and wanted to show you what you will receive. ***The device will begin selling tomorrow at our Flagship stores at 11 am while supplies last. ***”
Nokia Online: paraphrased, “We’ve always said July, we’re shipping first week of July, we’re not the flagship stores, we don’t know how they get their phones.”
Nice, Nokia. Way to lie to us to our face. Get our phones as they hit shelves. I mean, your OWN shelves? Your OWN stores? No? Really. Wow. Just wow. You really do NOT deserve any of my money, period, and you definitely deserve the dunce student treatment you get in the States because clearly you can’t prove that you’re better than it.
Listen, I’m not saying we get it before any other country. I’m just saying when you DO decide that they go on sale here, that customers get what they were promised as early, full-retail, pre-release payers who can’t cancel our orders — the phones, starting on the same day they go on sale in stores.
I’m absolutely livid.

@Andrew, Word is the white ones on pre-order should be coming real real soon. (really don’t want to compound anything by construing promises, but I really mean soon).

@Noah, I’m not too pleased either and will dig into this a bit more.

@Noah, I shook some trees for you.
Word is, the pre-orders are being fulfilled as we speak. Lemme know when you get yours. You should have it soon. Is there a way to track it?
I think the Flagship jumped the gun (I think they are as antsy to get their mitts on these as you), as I don’t think any other store will have the N97.

As per initial N97 user guide – there is no Skype integration or SIP client.
Will the SIP client be included with Skype integration?
When will the ROM updates follow?
Will they ever follow?
Thank you.

Hey everybody..
First off, I really can’t wait for the Nokia N97 but!!
Does anybody know when it will be released in Australia?
I have been looking everywhere for the release date for AUS, but I cannot find anything.
I’m hoping somebody knows.. I’ve been on the Aus Nokia website but that doesn’t say; it
only says coming soon.. So does anybody know the actual release date for the Aussies?
I came across a website for the Nokia N97 owners http://www.NokiaN97Forum.com let’s help each other on this great phone.a
