Ovi Store poll results – over half of you already downloading content
By Mike on 18 June 2009
GLOBAL – The dust is beginning to settle around the launch of the Ovi Store, with initial reactions to its arrival ranging from magnificent to miffed. So in our recent poll we thought we’d ask you if you were actively downloading content from the Ovi Store, and how much content you’d sucked onto your handset over the first few weeks. Over four hundred of you got involved in the poll, and it turns out over 50 percent of you have already begun fattening up your Nokia phones with content from Ovi Store. Read on for all the results.
The poll showed that 59% of you had already begun downloading content from the Ovi Store, with 31% having downloaded between 2-5 bite-size bits of software and 6% having downloaded 10+ pieces of content. On other side of the fence 36% of you hadn’t downloaded any content yet. If you were one of the 5% who didn’t know what the Ovi Store is, click here to read all about it in our new Almanac section.
At less than a month old Ovi Store is still in its infant stage and promises to mature rapidly over the coming months with even more content, but your reaction certainly shows that there’s an active interest in Nokia’s mobile content mall and that it’s a destination that will evolve and improve to help you get the most from your handset with no hassle. What do you think? As ever, please leave your thoughts and opinions in the comments section below.

Perhaps Nokia hasn’t received the credit it deserves for such undertaking. The logistics of launching Ovi Store in so many countries is simply huge. It was expected to have some teething problems.
Nevertheless, if Ovi Store wants to overtake competitors it has to provide a flawless experience. One hint to the designers: stick to browser-agnostic features and standards! It is imperative.
I want to see the Ovi Store pass smoothly to HTML5 while using the latest ECMAScript. All good browsers support these latest technologies and you can do pretty fancy things with them without using Flash or other proprietary stuff.

Any chance of Nokia publishing numbers on the Ovi Store? (Users who overloaded the servers, time of one millionth item downloaded, number of users on Ovi Store?)
I’m putting off my purchase of the N97 until there will be some indication of where Nokia is going with the Ovi Store. Attracting developers would happen easily, if Nokia would join the “attention economy” properly by publishing its numbers for Ovi (including the number of Ovi/Nokia accounts as a rolling counter!
.
(Not to mention a video about those green dots overflowing the world map to maybe create some excitement instead of the negative reviews.

Ovi Store team, there is a LOT of complaints on any given phone forum about not being able to reload an already purchased app e.g. after a reset of a phone. You HAVE GOT TO come out with an official Nokia position on this – no matter what it is. You have to provide an explanation of the situation, no matter how grim it may be for power users for keep chaning phones, resetting them etc., but you have to do it for your own PR sakes. And do it FAST.
