Nokia rugged phone versus swimming pool, pint of beer and a very big ladder
By Mike on 07 July 2009
GLOBAL – Nokia’s new rugged device is on the receiving end of yet more tough love. Today we’re highlighting another batch of real world (and rather harsh) experiments that we recently conducted on the consenting caller. This latest series of videos sees Nokia’s tough phone go toe-to-toe with a swimming pool, a pint of beer and a very tall ladder.
Watch all three videos to find out how the rugged phone fared in these not-so-scientific tests.
Watch all our video experiments, including Nokia phone versus golf club and Nokia phone versus rugby boot, over at our Nokia rugged phone videos section.
Stay tuned for more experiments coming tomorrow!

lol, that vids are fun, but I have my doubt whether this is real or not! I mean I have a N78 and battery cover removes itself and battery is falling out when it falls the 30cm from my bed! These 5 meters free fall on solid stone would be great of course…

@thiemob, We were in disbelief too! I know the ladder test is a bit extreme (and I certainly wouldn’t recommend it to anyone), but the battery cover did indeed somehow stay in place.

@Mike,
This is the best post on this site ever !
It was so much fun watching the phone put to test and nice to see it survive.
why don’t you put the phone under the car Tyre next time ?

Well, i’m impressed with the phone agai..
Not only for the ladder drop, but also for surviving a pool..(btw, a few hours of gym wouldn’t do any harm…).
Btw, you could add an extra to your “experimentations”.. Eg, in the beer, you could try to put the phone vibrating. Would be cool to find out what would happen to the bubbles.

@Nuno Pereira,
i think the phone would survive better if its not operating.

@varun, The interest is having the phone on the same conditions as it would be on our pocket/hand..
Right now i’m just waiting for the next bloodbath, starring this “unknown” Nokia.
When will it happen? Want some ideas?

i like the versus pint of beer, very realistic & practical. Is the versus big ladder real? The fall sounds hard! No battery cover being detach? Or broken screen? It could be nice to have a close up on the phone to see what damages it taken.

The question is, will this be a S60 device? I mean, with GPS this would be an awesome outdoor hiking tool.

@Peter, lately i’ve been reading some leaked info’s regarding this device, and everybody’s saying it’s an S40 one.. Sorry..
Btw, i don’t thik a GPS module would survive to a fall from that ladder..

Nowhere was this growth more evident than in the youth service field, where thousands of organiza- tions emerged. ,
