Nokia rugged phone versus green jelly and paintball

By Mike on 08 July 2009

GLOBAL – We’ve put Nokia’s new rugged phone through some grueling tests over the past few days, and this time we release the safety lock and fire at it with a paintball gun, and suspend it in jelly to see if it can survive.

I think I can safely say no one has ever done either of those things to a phone before (probably for good reason).

So our latest real world experiments – outside the safety and sanity of the lab – see us capture on film the moment we drown Nokia’s new rugged phone in green jelly and shoot it with green pellets (to colour coordinate with the Conversations website, of course). Watch both videos right here.

Hello, I am James Boulter, the founder of the World Paint Ball Union. We are a non-profit organization for the positive promotion of paintball world wide.
I would like to say that we are impressed with your product, many of us are afraid of having our mobiles ruined on field. Taking the initiative to think about our sport and provide something that is stylish and rugged like your phone will definitely speak to our players.
But I do have one safety concern about your video. The person firing the marker is not wearing proper safety equipment, goggles. Though it is only one way shooting, it is still unsafe.
Thank you for your time, keep making a great product. I cant wait to see the wireless power system come out. And please use the proper safety equipment when handling a paint marker

Well, once again i have to congratulate you for these ideas.

The jelly-phone was amusing (yes, i had to show it to my wife so they could laugh with me). But, it shows something that doesn’t please me that much: The phone’s vibrations seems low. Is that so, or jelly isn’t a good conductor of phone vibration?

The Paintball-phone was more than awesome:
Lately, i’ve been playing in tournaments (paintball), and the only thing that bugs me is that i NEED to carry my phone with me (cannot go offline), and the best solution that i’ve arranged is a Nokia 1600, because untill now the only damage i’ve been able to do was breaking the cover screen. It still works, and the display too, but i need a new cover.
This one is definetly stronger than the 1600, and that IS something.

    Waiting for more, please ;)
