Nokia World only seven weeks away

By JBC on 13 July 2009

GLOBAL - It only seems like yesterday that we sat down in a Barcelona hall to see the N97 being revealed at last year’s Nokia World. But now we’re a mere seven weeks away from Nokia World 2009, which will be taking place in Stuttgart on September 2-3. The event promises the usual mix of future innovations underlined by Nokia’s mission to connect people to the things they love “how, when and whenever they choose”. Nokia World is all about mobility and the event brings together everyone involved in making it better and more accessible – operators, developers, media, music and content houses, games publishers, retailers, technology and Internet companies, analysts, journalists and bloggers. That’s not to mention various teams from within Nokia.

Stuttgart, the new heart of Europe, will play host to Nokia World this year, and the schedule is already packed with interactive sessions and of course, keynote speakers. It’s not all work though, the middle of the two-day event sees the infamous Nokia World party take place, which is sure to keep delegates suitably refreshed.

UPDATE: For the last two years the event has taken place in December, but has been brought forward to September for 2009. The last big Nokia event held in September was Nokia Open Studio, held in New York in 2006, where the Nokia N95 was unveiled. Not since the N95 was unveiled at the inaugural Nokia World in New York in 2006 has the event taken place in September, with both Amsterdam in 2007 and Barcelona last year happening in early December.

Alongside the usual keynote speakers from Nokia, this year will see the guest speaker list include Rene Obermann, CEO Deutsche Telekom talking about “Connected Life and Work”, author and columnist Daniel Pink talking about “a whole new mind” and Henri Moissinac, director of Mobile at Facebook discussing the “mobile’s role in a real-time world”. Looks like attendees are in for a real treat then, but fear not those who won’t be attending as Conversations will be there in full force giving you a blow by blow run down of the most important happenings at the event. I, for one, can’t wait.

Check out Mark Selby’s video introduction to Nokia World below. Let us know in the comments what kind of things you’d like to see, or expect to see, at Nokia World 2009. Meanwhile check out the Nokia World website for more details and a full breakdown on the itinerary.

    Nokia World should be good this year. Hard to imagine that the N97 was announced at last year’s event so this one has a lot to live up too.

    I am sure Nokia have a few things up their sleeve to announce

    @gregg003, if superman doesn’t fly on NokiaWorld ‘09, i guess it’s time to cut Nokia’s wings… ;)

    The way i see it, last year everybody kicked Nokia’s butt, and i don’t want a “déjà vu” this year too.

    @Plamen – You are right, sorry I confused the two events, even though I was at the Open Studio event in New York. (I missed out on the first Nokia World in Amsterdam but have been to the last two in 2007 and 2008).

    How about the rumored follow-up to the N810? Oh, in this age of iPhones and Androids we are in dire need for some fresh alternatives to the aging S60 platform…

    P.S. 12MPx and xenon flash would not hurt either ;)
