Nokia 6760 Slide unveiled
By JBC on 21 July 2009
GLOBAL – Finger tappers everywhere will soon have new buttons to press as the Nokia 6760 slide messaging device is coming to Europe. The Nokia 6760 slide shares many (but not all) traits with its US sibling, the Nokia Surge, announced in the US last week. Designed for messaging on the move, the 6760 slide sports a full slide out QWERTY keyboard and is the perfect device to keep your status up to date, your followers fed with tweets and staying in touch on IM.
The landscape 6760 slide sports a 2.4-inch QVGA display, 3.2-megapixel snapper and support for up to 8GB of storage with microSD (it comes with a 2GB card). Talk time is a healthy five hours, though with all that messaging functionality it’s the 500 hours standby time that’ll have bigger appeal. The 6760 also comes with A-GPS which serves up mapping treats through 3D landmarks and terrain mapping.
Nokia messaging comes as standard which will give access to a range of popular email services, along with Mail for Exchange support and for those who don’t feel like looking at the screen, Message Reader. Google Talk and Windows Live Instant Messaging services are also supported. You can also get easy access to Facebook, Twitter and MySpace.
The 6760 slide will be available during the third quarter of 2009 for €199 before subsidies and taxes. Initially available in black, red and white variants are expected later in the year for some countries.

Finally, an affordable Q-keyboarder. I guess this phone is part of a similar strategy with 5530. Just like 5530, which is a trimmed version of 5800, 6760 is like a trimmed version of 5730/E75.
Its camera seems to be better than Surge. I am eagerly waiting for its specifications to be published on Forum Nokia page.
It doesn’t seem to have wifi, but I hope wifi is included so that it can fulfill its “messaging” objective. Otherwise, I do not consider this phone as a serious alternative.

There must have been positive feedbacks from consumers all over Europe that’s why Nokia is bringing this up among European nations.
Any plans in selling this to the rest of the world specially Asia in particular where this phone well definitely sell due to its low price?

Looks promising! The design is not completely my taste (I suspect it’s more made for the American market, that likes bigger buttons) but the functionality is.
This could very well be a successor to my stil functional E61. It seems more affordable than the E71 with keys spread out wider, making typing as easy as on my E61. The slide design makes it not that wide as my E61 though. GPS is really something one can’t do without these days and the camera should be great for day to day shots: 3.2 megapixels is more than enough – better than other brands (yes, LG Renoir, I’m looking at you) touting more and more mexapixels with poor image quality.
Nice to hear Nokia talk about tweets now in an announcement. At the moment, I am happy with the Gravity Twitter app on Symbian.

What’s the best camera phone to get if you don’t want to do poster size prints, but you like uploading and Emailing your friends? The mega-pixel number doesn’t seem to be the total rating for quality.

@Gary H
Hi Gary, N86 8MP is currently our best camera solution. Here’s why (just the unique bits):
- Best colour reproduction
- 28mm wideangle – get more into your picture. Great for all round photography
- Best low light performance of any camera phone to date
- Fastest camera latencies so far
- Greatest amount of detail (pixels partly but mainly new lens, latest sensor and improved image processing) SW update in the pipeline to improve even more

@Damian,
I second that.
I was invited along with a few other bloggers recently to tour the Carl Zeiss HQ and Factory in Stuttgart, we were all loaned N86’s to take photos and use as a phone for 2 days.
I really enjoyed using it and the video recording quality is awesome!

I wonder how many people, like me, use two phones now. I’ve given up my landline. No point. I have one phone as my “best”, and second phone as companion. One is on a contract, the other is PAYG. The second phone is for texting and calls, so a phone like this would be great. Take away the camera and anything else reserved for “best” phone. Would make an excellent companion phone to a best phone.
