YouTube on your N97 and 5800

By JBC on 24 July 2009

GLOBAL – This week sees the roll out of an S60 5th edition of the mobile YouTube app. I’ve used this app on my E71 previously and it’s a great way of dipping into the curious world of YouTube video (BTW, have you seen our recent efforts?). Rolling it out on the 5800 XpressMusic and N97 is a boon for owners of those devices. I’ve just installed the app on my N97 and it works a treat, is brilliantly quick (over WiFi) and swiping through videos works great.

Mark over at The Nokia Blog has put together a quick video which takes you through the key features of the app, and shows off the swipe scrolling functionality. Mark doesn’t like the fact the app doesn’t use up the whole screen, but it does mean the menu is easy to access.

If you have any other thoughts on what else you’d like to see in this kind of app, share them in the comments below. You should be able to pick up the app from m.youtube.com or you can download it from the NokiaAddict downloads page here.

N97s get “device not supported” when visiting http://m.youtube.com/app — they should really fix that, no?

Why does Nokia always get the short end of the stick when it comes to applications. This doesn’t utilize any of the potential of the N97. Why can’t they make an iPhone like youtube app for the N97? Is that too much to ask for? I really can’t believe how it doesn’t go full screen either. Get your act together Google. Play the video’s in full screen. Let us access our youtube account from the application, let us upload our own videos we’ve taken on our device through the application.

N97 is trash! I regret I have purchased it! NOkia please get yourself together and take all the phones back and equip them with more RAM! This is year 2009 for gods sake! how could you produce a flagship with 40MB free RAM? I can only run 1 or 2 app at a time!? and you call this mobile computer?

I have 80mb free RAM on my N95 8GB if N97 is a mobile computer with 40mb free RAM I wonder what is N95 8GB is?

If I was Nokia I would charge for N95 8GB 700$ and charge 150 for N97 because N97 is the biggest junk in the history of mobile computing!

    Excellent. Thanks guys.

I’d been trying to get this from m.youtube.com, but no luck. Just downloaded the app from the NokiaAddict link so I’ll try this one.
