Quickoffice update for Nokia Symbian devices
By JBC on 30 July 2009
GLOBAL – Nokia users who like to keep their work in their pocket will be chuffed to hear that Quickoffice Premier 6 has been released for S60 3rd edition and S60 5th edition devices. The update includes support for viewing the full suite of Microsoft Office 2007 documents and the editing of most.
What’s even better is the update is free. Gratis. Nada. For all Nokia Symbian handsets that ship with Quickoffice. Recent Eseries devices also qualify for the full suite of viewing and editing options, given their owners penchant for work on the go. All of these upgrades, as well as those users that want to add additional functionality for a small fee, are available through Quickmanager, the in-app download manager.
Waldemar Sakalus, VP at Nokia said
“We are very happy to be able to work with Quickoffice to jointly deliver this new feature at no cost for our customers. Bringing the ability to access all Office 2007 document types to devices such as the Nokia N97 and the Nokia 5800 is a great benefit for our customers.”
The updates will be available today, so check your Quickmanager in Quickoffice to see if yours is available. You can find out more about Quickoffice from www.quickoffice.com. Let us know what you think in the comments below.

Sorting out my copy right now for my N97. Used it on my old N95 8GB and transfering the license over to my N97.

“Update Error”.
Mine is a clean install of the free update Quickoffice provided, about a month ago. I am running an un-hacked, unlocked NAM version E71-2.

I still cannot understand why one would perform office tasks on a phone. This is the most useless software on my E71 if you ask me.

@Sander, that was my initial thought when i got the Nokia E63, but then there was a day when I did not have paper nor a pen or my laptop, I was stuck on the bus with no place to write down thoughts on a research paper, then I opened up QuickOffice v4 I think and I found myself deep into a 2 page research proposal. Since then I have found it helpful when I get emails with attachments either a spreadsheet or word doc. Haven’t really used the presentation feature, but suffice it to say, the app is not ideal for the long winded writing, but certainly good for reviewing and beginning a paper. That’s my two cent

@Sander, if one buys a smartphone, he’s expected to make use of it. Or else he would buy a dummy-phone like the 1600…

@Sander, well…… good observation but there have been times when i’ve received email attachments with spreadsheets and even though the screen is obviously smaller than my PC I could still read the attachment instead of waiting whatever length of time until i was back at my pc / laptop!!

I was absolutely thrilled when this update came out for E-series devices, and even more pumped that I can now put the read-only version on my wife’s N79. I’m not much for editing docs on my phone, but being able to read Office 2007 documents is a critical feature for a business user- I sync my work email with MFE and a lot of stuff comes in docx or xlsx.

Just a shame that e-series users are getting the full editing version, and those with the brand new N97 will only be able to view Office 2007 documents.
Still – musn’t grumble – it’s all free, so at least now i can see whats in these attachments!

Quickoffice should be free on a flagship phone like the N97… why should I have to pay for it?

Always waiting for editable office for N97 so as to shift to a Nokia. Will it come free of charge, or I retain my Experia?
