Ramadan apps arrive on N97 and the Ovi Store
By Mike on 12 August 2009
GLOBAL – This time last year we ran a piece about how excited we were to see such diversity breeding on the mobile software scene, punctuated with the emergence of the suite of Ramadan related services for Nokia devices. This year, the Holy Month of Ramadan is again being supported via a package of pocket apps, with the addition of more devices, including the Nokia N97, plus each of the apps is now available through the Ovi Store and nokia.com/ramadan.
ArabCrunch was first to pick up on the news of the newly available Ramadan apps arriving at the Ovi Store (thanks, it almost flew under our radar!).
The suite of Ramadan services comprises of a collection of seven bite-size apps. There’s a smart Quran app with multi-language support, meaning you can read it in Arabic, English, French, Farsi or Urdu. Plus, it’s been developed with a listen-to feature, with famous reciters Al-Hudhaifi, Al Sudais and Al Shuraim, and even features a smart search function to find key verses, phrases and more.
Alongside the Quran app sit a stable of other useful Ramadan-related slivers of software, including the GPS-enabled Hajj and Umrah app, featuring journeys and famous places you can visit during the pilgrimage with detailed directions. The other apps are called Mozzaker, Cards, Prayer Times, Hadith and Zakah Calculator, and you can read more about each of these over at nokia.com/ramadan.
Are you a Muslim, and have you used any of these apps or are you planning to? Likewise, do you think similar services for other faiths would work well? Let us know what you think.

The Mozakker link (the MORE) is faulty and leads to Cards.

Hi Mike,
I love the idea. Unfortunately I couldn’t find the said apps in the Ovi store. Are they region specific ?
I am trying from US/ATT.

The hadith app is ok but weak. It’s in arbic and leaves most people out in the dark since it doesn’t translate in English.

Ramadan Apps are limited to a few phones only what about e71 , doesn’t Nokia think the phone is important enough to be worthy for them and E66 is ??
I’ve suggested to Nokia to make Ovi Store more platform / OS dependent than Phone dependent that makes it to reach further audience .

now I’ve to use the Ramadan Apps on my N86 but not on E71 which is my main phone
Nokia Kindly comment on it

I’m from South Africa and can’t seem to download any of these apps – they are not showing in the Ovi Store. Any idea if it is only available in the Middle East?

@ Nafisa , you have to have one of these phones to be able to download from OVI Store
Nokia N97, Nokia N86, Nokia E75, Nokia E66, Nokia 7210, Nokia 6730c, Nokia 6720c, , Nokia 6303, Nokia 6300, Nokia 6120c, Nokia 5800XpressMusic and Nokia 5130
It sucks that Nokia has limited these useful applications to only 12 models where else other popular models like E71 are left out .

More than 3/4 of all muslims live outside the middle east, so why limit this great app to one region.
