Introducing Nokia N97 mini
By JBC on 02 September 2009
STUTTGART, Germany – Following in the footsteps of its bigger, older brother, the Nokia N97 mini was unveiled this morning at Nokia World 09. Sporting new homescreen widgets and a host of usability improvements, the N97 mini still packs 8GB of storage, a 3.2-inch touchscreen and full QWERTY keyboard into its 14.2mm thin frame. It’s also the first Nokia device to sport Lifecasting with Ovi – a new partnership with the world’s largest social network, Facebook. The N97 mini is based on the same tilt display design of its N97 big brother, built into a smaller body complete with new design touches.
Lifecasting enables users to update their Facebook status directly from the device’s homescreen. It doesn’t stop there though as location details can also be updated, enabling a whole new level of social sharing and communication. With the ability to completely customise the homescreen, users will be able to make their N97 mini truly unique.
The 3.2-inch touchscreen opens up a new world of software improvements including flick scrolling and a range of new experiences including new homescreen widgets. What’s more, the software update will also be available next month for existing N97 devices.
The Nokia N97 mini works seamlessly with Ovi Store where users can add new applications, widgets, ringtones and other content to their device. It also sports Ovi Maps and comes with integrated A-GPS and compass along with with voice navigation for driving or walking. Over 155,000 points of interest are also available through Lonely Planet guides and restaurants through Michelin Guides.
Up to 12 days standby time are on offer and up to 28 hours music playback (in offline mode). The 5-megapixel camera comes with dual LED flash and video light, along with a Carl Zeiss Tessar lens. The 8GB of on board memory can be expanded to 24GB with the addition of a 16GB microSD card.
The Nokia N97 mini will be available next month for an estimated retail price of EUR450 before taxes and subsidies. Check out our preview gallery below. And see the Social Media Release here.

If you are music freak then N97 Mini Rocks with Razer Moray headphones. I have written about Razer Moray with Nokia N97 Mini, its bit pricey but excellent performance.

Actually the mini has more added software and id more compact and easy to handle, more user friendly, the difference is the internal memory and size.

N97 mini lacks so many features present in original N97 and still it is priced higher than the original one.Are you going to buy it just because of its looks and size. When N900 is just €50 costlier, who is going to buy N97 mini.Check out its comparison with N97

This has to be the most outdated, useless phone existing. Doesn’t have anything remotely like a useful interface. Doesn’t sync with much. However, it does have one great feature, it is so bad it is easy for us to throw away (tossed in air and shot at skeet range) this test phone and not have wasted resources on buying 3500 units for work. The only thing this phone was missing is a bag, battery, and pull out antenna.

Friends for me this phone is not upto the mark. For businessman this n97 is totally no no. since it don`t let you use quickoffice .so u cann`t even open word and excel files forget about editing them. u cann`t purchase quickoffice since its not available anywhere. Secondly, it get hang again & again even the latest version .Thirdly, it doesn`t connect on bsnl wi-fi. When i enquired on nokia toll free no. they surprised me by saying that n97 cann`t be connected through wi-fi.Even the service center people do not know anything. I feel betrayed.

That was a good review.
I think nokia has decreased the space for the new mini when compared to earlier version. rest all features are almost same except voice calling and push to talk.
Screen is smaller, but it is handy and easily usable.
I think I am going to rock with it.

Although the iPhone3G S is a very smart phone, it not intelligent enough to compete against the Nokia N97 Mini.
The Nokia N97 mini is like having a mini super computer on your pocket. The features of the Nokia N97 Mini are very impressive compared to the iPhone.

WHAT a pile of rubbish this phone is !
Small in size – BIG in problems!!!!!!!!!
It locks up & has to be re booted, it turns off-de powers! during calls & programmes, the touch screen has a mind of its own and can repeat the key function ad lib – even the delete key -watch your email/txt,contacts dissapear in front of your eyes.
If you got yours from Fones.4.U you’re in big trouble. they don’t want to know. the Customer un”help”ful desk is a shambles & their managers are very poor at customer liason!
Have a nice day – but with a different fone!

The N97mini is a great mobile phone.
However, the current firmware version v10.0.020 is buggy.
Sometimes, when the phone get idle and locked, it’s not possible to reactivate it and requires to reboot it.
There seems to be connectivity problem as there is a WLAN connection automatically established without my consent. When deactivating the WLAN connection, the mobile reconnects automatically. The only way to solve this is to switch to offline-mode, remove the save WiFi access point and return back to normal mode.
Also, there doesn’t seem to be any VoIP client, although it’s possible to set SIP settings. Haven’t found how to make a SIP call (as-in-real-SIP-calls-without-carriers-control) ?
At last, it’d be great if we could update the firmware from Ubuntu/Linux PC and more generally to have a Linux version of the Nokia PC Suite. I’m trying to run PC Suite with Wine in Ubuntu but unsuccessfully, the installation fails.
Please Nokia, provide us a Linux version of PC Suite.

I am very dissapointed with the 97 when comparing it with my old Nokia 6708. One of the users said it is just like holding a computer in your palm…. YES, it is quite right but with a good load of buggs in it! The only plus I can think of is its processing speed seems faster though! Hope Nokia will not take forever to fix their buggs!!
