N900 to appear in London next week!
By JBC on 04 September 2009
LONDON, England – The Nokia N900 will be making a special appearance when it forms part of an installation at the BFI on London’s Southbank next week. Running from September 9 to 13 is the onedotzero adventures in motion festival, featuring a special installation which will be controlled by a Nokia N900.
The application for the installation was developed by digital artists Karsten Schmidt and Gary birkett. The app uses live messages from a variety of online sources to create an animated digital projection. The actual visual, projected onto the side of the BFI, can then be controlled by the N900. Tapping into the device’s accelerometer, users can manipulate the projection simply by flipping and rotating the device (check it out in the video below). During the festival there will also be a number of talks around development on the maemo platform, including a panel discussion on Thursday 10 September featuring Nokia’s head of user experience design on maemo, Harri Kiljander.
For those keen to see an N900 up close before it goes on sale, get down to the BFI on London’s Southbank next week. Whilst you’re there you can check out the adventures in motion festival too.

London again? Does nokia not know that theres more to the UK than just bloody London?
Saying that they don’t bother releasing firmware here until months after everywhere else, even for unbranded phones.

London will be a useful platform. It has good transport links which will facilitate the arrival of the thousands of betrayed N97 users who have paid the same money for an Alpha product, still not working after 2 months.

i agree…a lot of the early adopters of the Nokia N97 would be disappointed with the n900 phone release. I think they should do a protest there…saying that their N97 is not working very well after 2 months. what a way to go Nokia, betraying customer confidence in n97…well done indeed.

The N900 does not have 3G video calling … Why on earth is that?
Earlier the Maemo site said, Video Calling: To be announced Later…
what happened?

No Video calling? I’d be more concerned with the lack of MMS and “use as a modem” But, seeing as this is technically the first Maemo phone, I hope these things will arrive soon after launch.. maybe.. please..

Technically it’s not a phone at all. It’s an internet tablet that *also* allows you to make GSM calls and send/receive text messages, which is more than its predecessors could do.

Nice that it’s a free event, might have to go book myself some tickets: that’s just how desperate I am to get a glimpse of this device. I hope many networks pick it up on release.

One thing is to announce a device capability, and another is to show the entire world (or just who’s interested) what that device is capable.
I know (or supose) that Maemo is capable of bigger achievements, but this sounds good enough to start with.
Now Nokia can follow this idea (for advertising purposes), and cover the big whole betwen Nokia’s and Apple’s marketing team. Show what you can do, not by words, but with actions.
Way to go Karsten Schmidt & Gary birkett.

Is it confirmed the N900 has no MMS? I use MMS quite a lot, it’s rather expensive but still the best way to communicate in images between friends. I receive quite a lot of MMS as well, so it would be a deal breaker.

Can’t wait for the new Nokia phones – bring them on! They have a lot of convincing to do (iphone) but I have always been a Sony fan. Give me wi-fi and broadband support and I am sold.

Release:
The phone will be out within 2-3 weeks here in Switzerland, with a retail price of 800 Swiss Franks, which is 527 Euros, or 781 Dollars.
And I suppose it will be the same for most countries, maybe earlier or a bit later, but surely not longer than end of October or the first week in November.
