How many apps do you have – poll results

GLOBAL – The votes have been counted and as ever you’ve not been shy in coming forward with your responses. Hundreds of you voted on last week’s poll asking how many apps you’re running on your current device. As ever things aren’t as straightforward as they seem and the question could be interpreted a number of ways. More on that later, meanwhile get the results after the jump.
To keep the question as straightforward as possible, and the results accurate, we specified that the question relates only to your current device, and apps that are currently installed on that device. But even given that restriction, the results were impressive: if content is king then Ovi Store is a happy kingdom. The largest proportion of respondents, a full 43 per cent, went for the highest option available, 11+.
In some cases, it was clear that the number was significantly more than 11, too. Reader gregg003 proudly told us he has more than 40, Amit has installed upwards of 30 on his 5800 XpressMusic in just one month, while Farhan claims to have downloaded a whopping 75.
Widget2’s quota of 36 reads like an Ovi Store wishlist:
The next-highest option, 7-10, received a healthy 18 per cent of the vote, while 4-6 garnered 19 per cent. That means JBC’s admission to currently having just three on his recently updated E71 puts him in the bottom 20 per cent – time to get redownloading. Right now I’m downloading everything and anything on Conversations’ own Nokia N900.
Just over one in 10 respondents (11 per cent) owned up to having just one, two or three apps currently residing on their Nokia handset, while five per cent admitted they hadn’t downloaded a single app and the same proportion couldn’t resist going for the ‘what’s an app?’ option.
Our poll question itself asked only the number of apps you had ‘downloaded and installed’, but an interesting debate cropped up over what constitutes a ‘running’ app.
Reader Simon argued that we should distinguish between apps that ended up just sitting there and ones that were in regular use.
Another reader, cycnus, said their own proportion of ‘running’ apps was far higher.
But while Simon’s point that installed is not running certainly has merit, it’s worth repeating JBC’s thoughts in response:
Perhaps in the end it’s just a matter of interpretation. Either way, as Ovi Store goes from strength to strength we look forward to repeating this poll in a year’s time to getting another glimpse at just what apps you’ve been downloading, and using.

Again you failed to identify the key points of your research on the stats.
What you want to find out is how many apps are used on a daily basis or frequency of use, not how many is downloaded.
It common for a person to download dozens of apps and then find out it’s not what they want and leave it on their phone because they’ve paid for it already.
What’s install on a phone may never be used including many of the default apps provided.
Also, the people visiting this site are not ordinary people and are more of phone geeks and nerds. This sample population cannot be used to represent the average Joe.

I think the point of the last pool were to find if any of us were know where to download loots of apps for the nokia handset. because if you look at the other product made by fruit factory they always said that they have plenty of apps inside the fruit factory apps store. and as usual, most writer will said that nokia failed in this subject.
but I agree what ming387 point too. it’s not about how many apps that you download from the app store, but how many apps do you regularly use in your phone. or in other word, the statistic that the fruit company said were not as good as it looks.
anyway,
i’m glad about the future of ovi. great job nokia.

Hmm, I wonder where the writer got the idea that Ovi Store has anything to do with this? Most of the apps I and my friends use are not available in Ovi Store. Mainly because it would cost a lot of money to get them there, especially when many of them are freeware.
So, please explain a single “strength” that Ovi Store has and how does the number of applications on users’ devices relate to Ovi Store since most of the apps are downloaded from other places…

I agree with commenter “Luser”.
This poll and article on how many apps people are using on their phones, should not be related to Ovi store, since it is not exactly related to Ovi store.
There are thousands of apps available outside Ovi store and sometimes, free and/or cheaper than Ovi store in case of paid apps.
Lot of people also hack their phone and have several apps installed which are not available through Ovi store.
Nokia needs to bring all App publishers and developers under one hood i.e “Ovi Store”, till then Apple will keep biting Nokia with their 100,000 apps marketing and have bigger mindshare on subarban moms and pops and ignorant public who gets awed by the excellent Apple Marketing.

Have well over 100 apps on my 5800XM…but I am mostly using(15):nimbuzz,mippin,bloomberg,gravity,opera mobile,nokia messaging,nokia maps,youtube,jbtaskman,wefi,worldmate,autorama,power mp3,devicestatus,x-plore.
