My three favourite Nokia devices. Ever. part 2

By Phil on 12 November 2009

Nokia-N95-8GBGLOBAL – I’ve had too many Nokia devices to even count…one of the perks from working at Nokia for seven years.  It seems that every new device in my hands instantly becomes “the best ever!” – until three months later when I receive a new device and the “old” one is relegated to a drawer somewhere.  So naturally, choosing my favourite Nokias ever took some serious thinking and internal debating, but three definitely stand out in my mind…

Nokia-9210iNokia 9210i (Communicator)

When I joined Nokia in Spring of 2003, this was the device given to all new employees.  I remember it took a few days for the device to come in, and those may have been the longest few days of my life.  My colleagues often complained of the size, not me – that giant color screen and full QWERTY keyboard allowed me to get online from anywhere at anytime.  And if I were ever attacked on the streets, the 9210i’s brick-like structure could double as a deadly weapon. This was the device that took me from mobile phone enthusiast to the mobile geek I am today.

Nokia-E70Nokia E70

I fell in love with Nokia’s Eseries when I got my E61, but it was the E70 I proposed to (plus it didn’t help that my girlfriend kept telling me I was talking to a calculator with the E61).  The E70’s oddly sized 352×416 resolution packed a lot of pixels into a very small space and made for one of the most beautiful screens ever.  It was where I first discovered the Nokia Podcasting app and began listening to podcasts. Today that app is the most used on any device I have.

Nokia N95 8GB

The lack of a QWERTY keyboard didn’t stop me loving this device and the 5-megapixel camera gave me photos I could be proud of.  Its 8GB of storage too meant plenty of space for my podcasts made even better with Stereo Bluetooth.  And then there’s the beautiful design. The N95 8GB was the first convergence-style device I got truly excited about.  Who didn’t love this thing?

nice devices picked and I definitely agree with the N95 8GB but I have to go back further for my others. They have to be the 3310 – why because it was so good for text. And the 7110 because the slide down was so cool and it have a navi wheel for the first time

I loved my N95. But as soon as I got my N95 8GB I was like, “Ahhh…this is what the N95 was SUPPOSED to be”

The 3310 was my very first Nokia! What a champion that was. I swear I still see people using that phone today! It lasts forever.

I love nokia e90. I changed 2 and now i became desperate because i have no news about the future Nokia Communicator.

Is there any chance to release it in 2010?

otherwise, i may start to think about another business phone

Yes, the N95 8GB is a top phone. The E70 was top heavy, mine lasted for about two weeks before it tipped out of my hand and into a cup of tea. I’ve just got the N86 & it is truly a beautiful well presented top quality phone. If you want something that is just good at being a phone, get this one. I enjoy photography, but am still unclear if I really need 8mpx. Perhaps the sequel, or N87 whatever, should max out the screen like the N95 8GB. The double slide isn’t really necesary anymore, but never mind. I’ve gone off touch screen phones & very glad I have an N86. I can see with the N86 closed, it could tilt & slide a different way and become another N97, but perhaps in a more classic way.

The E70 was a brilliant device. It was the Nokia that made me realise that mobile phones could be used as serious business tools, but still retain the personality of a regular phone on the weekend. Only issue was the disappointing memory footprint.

Ah the memories , loved the N95-8GB still after my mom to take my 5800 XM and give me her N95-8GB , but mom knows best .

E70 was a great messaging device I had and I coupled it with a bluetooth GPS to make maps of KArachi :)

going further back what about Nokia 7650 – none like that at those times and Nokia MAtrix phone , awsome slide and Nokia 8910i , the design and looks , still make people turn and look at it

Coming up to renewing my contract and not sure what phone to upgrade to. I’ve lost interest in the N97. Considering the mini version though. Ideally, the N900 but lack of portrait mode to all phone s/w and apps is making me think twice. The HTC HD2 is another good candidate.

Why am I telling you all this?!? It’s because I subconsciously don’t want to let go of my ..N95 8GB!! That’s how fantastis this phone is!!

The E70 was (is) an incredible device. I can’t understand why they haven’t built an updated version… I loved the keyboard, the “normal phone” look when closed, the screen… they joystick was pure crap, but v2 version with an optical trackpad would be beautiful :D

Nice picks. I owned an E70 for a year, all of my friends thought i was nuts and i had some kind of alien technology in hand. In a month or two they got used to it. A year later i bought an E90 and well… if my friends picked up my phone in a pub they just didn’t know anything what to do with it. Most of them can’t even find my photos :D

Basically i’m in love with the E-series and i’m waiting for a successor to my E90. I honestly haven’t found anything that could replace it, not even the N900. It’s just not good enaugh for me to rush into buying it.

I have an N97. This is my first Nokia phone as I am a fan of another known brand but this one had what I thought I was looking for in a phone, that and my brother has been “Nokia Only” from the get go.
We are having trouble trying to find out if the bluetooth on the N95 8GB can be upgraded to 2.1 as my brothers phone sports version 2.0. Is it even possible to do this? He has been trying for days to steal my bluetooth headset bh-103 but it wont work with his phone.his phone won’t even recognize it.lol

6310i – best phone ever (still)
    9300i – best communicator ever
E71 – first device to replace both in my daily life :)

So Phil discovered podcasting with the E70.

Too bad people who buy the E52, E55 or E72 wont experience that joy.
