Nokia E72 on sale now
By JBC on 16 November 2009
GLOBAL – The Nokia E72 is the device so many of you have been waiting for. If nothing else, today’s news that the E72 is now in stores will answer the endless requests we’ve had wanting to know when E72 goes on sale. And we’re soooo excited. What a device. It’s never easy following up an absolute winner, as the E71 is, but the E72 doesn’t disappoint (I had a little play with one last week – it’s really lovely). The E72 isn’t just about a few tweaks and a nice makeover, it also adds a whole bunch of new features. Read on to find out more.
Built on a winning formula, the QWERTY laden E72 takes the best of the E71 and adds more. Brand new is the optical navigation key which makes hopping around the device’s menus a delight. New for this version also comes the latest version of Ovi Maps, compass and a five-megapixel camera.
The latest version of Nokia Messaging is on board too, giving you access to multiple work and personal email accounts. What’s more, Nokia Messaging now supports Instant Messaging too, so you can dial into your favourite IM communities right from the homescreen. Windows Live Messenger, Yahoo! Messenger, Google Talk and Ovi Chat are all supported. And when work gets too much, you can flick to your “play” profile with individual settings putting the E72 into relaxed mode.
Nokia today also revealed research highlighting that people rely more on email than traditional phone calls or text messaging when sending and responding to critical information. According to the research, we’re spending on average five days a year responding to email, whilst 46 per cent of us choose email over voice or text to send and receive important information. Good thing the E72 is finally here then.
Don’t forget to share your excitement in the comments below. If you want to find out more about Nokia’s responsiveness research check out the campaign site where you can respond to various issue and access comments from TED fellows.

Is this an global launch or will it be launched later in India. I just checked with the Nokia Concept Store in BANGALORE, they say that it is not yet launched in India. Sometime next week is what they are saying.

I’m sure it’s a great phone, but why is it missing apps like Podcasting and Internet radio that were on the E71 and E75?
Some of us business types listen to both music and podcasts you know. Their omission means I won’t be buying one.

THIS IS IT !!!. The Nokia E72 is just the best phone ever. I have been thinking a lot about this phone. If I needed a lot more Internet, I would go N900 but I have my mini laptop. If I needed a lot of music I´ll go X6 but I have my music player. What I do a lot is TEXTING and this one beats the hell out of Blackberry. And next year with MICROSOFT SHARE POINT, the Nokia E Series will take the cellphone industry into a brand new paradigm. Collaboration. I am not walking to the store, I am literally flying from Mexico City to San Diego, CA to buy this piece of art.

I’ve beed reading about it for some time, and there’s something that’s bugging me (and seems that nobody can enlighten me):
Does the E72 have Carl Zeiss lenses? If not, who makes the lenses then?

Still 320×240? At the end of 2009 for an aspiring smart-phone like the E72 this resolution is not enough anymore. I mean my 3 year old basic flip-phone (6133) has this same resolution…come on Nokia!!!

Just play around a few days here in Cambodia with it, Nokia E72.
With Nokia Messeging, I can log in with only Gmail account not Hotmail and Yahoo.
Any help to solve out will be much appreciated.
Ooop! Here in Cambodia the price is $450 which is a lil bit higher price in Philipine, 20,400 peso.

Hey kids, in some places in the world to sell the returned status to “book” instead of “buy.” Does the nokia not realized so many requests?

Does support for google talk mean that the E72 generally supports XMPP? I run an enterprise VoIP/Messaging deployment for some well known company in the design sector. The infrastructure relies heavily on the usage of XMPP for virtual meetings, text messaging, notifications, etc. It’d be really awesome to know that with the E72 there finally is a handset with well integrated jabber/xmpp support because that would mean that not only I will get an E72 as a replacement for my E71 but that I can roll it out as standard handset at work and get rid of their fancyphones with lacking keyboard

I’ve checked on my country’s website – Romania – and E72 is still “Coming soon”. Better yet, I’ve checked the UK and German sites and the answer is the same.
Any answers on why is this happening ?

I guess “GLOBAL” has a different meaning in your part of the world.

I guess the global availability just refers to wholesalers… so depending on the sales infrastructure in the respective country it may take a while until the E72 appears in the shelves in the shops.

I’m happy for the upgrade but its a shame that the display is stil 320×240, 2.36′. What do we need to do to make Nokia understand? Just a few features and its double price E71?
I’m not feminine but a broader screen resolution is more important than QWERTY. I use the screen more than any other feature of my phones. I’m a pro E-series and I know what I’m talking about.

Kato,
one of the great features of the E71 and the E-Series was good display legibility. Displays with a higher resolution not only cause a higher bom (bill of materials) price thus a higher end-user price too but have negative impact on battery life and usually legibility. Take the nokia 3g booklet as an example. roundabout 10″ size, yet 1280×720 resolution – while it is a unique feature in the netbook-range and clearly is ahead of competition it has received mixed responses in reviews as concerns the legibility and clarity in daylight scenarios.
As another example take the E70: much more dpi than the E72 (352×416 at 2.1″ vs. 320×240 at 2.36″) yet the same or even less content on the screen. So in the end the E72 is about being a perfect business-allrounder. At this size and considering the featureset it is already an amazing device. Just remove the battery and observe how few space there is left for actual electronic components.
If you want more screensize at the expense of a keyboard, the E series is probably not the right thing to look into. The N900 may be the device you’re looking for.

Its high time now. for long indians are waiting for the phone to be launched here.
i think the pricing wil be an important factor for sale in India coz Nokia is currently providing E71 @ 17000/- INR. Now if they launch E72 for not more than 19000/- INR then their sales might shift from E71 to E72 coz the features of both the models are almost similar except the 5 megapixel camera, some extra softwares supporting video and optical navigation key.
I feel this phone would drive its sales more coz of its looks (slightly different from e 71)and charm of getting new phone…therefore right pricing will mean a lot.what say?
any idea about the latest release date in india, anybody??

hey anish ……….. u r true about wat u said.but its just tht e 72 will be priced around 22K INR. so i dont thnk it will hit the sales of e 71 anywhere. ppl not ready to spend more thn 20 will stick to e 71. who doesnt want to spend more thn 15 will stick to e 63. and any ways theres no more production for the same so anyways the price r going to stick in the market.i would say …….. a bad business policy by nokia. but simply a freakin gr8 phone by them.
