The best thing about the Nokia X6: poll results

By Mike on 01 December 2009

Nokia X6GLOBAL - So the wait is over and the Nokia X6 is finally with us. It’s the beginning of a new era for Nokia – an era that is marked with an X. The first X Series handset certainly has a lot going for it, but what is top of the list? We asked you just that last week, and your answers have poured in. So let’s take a look at which of the X6’s boxes got your X…

And it’s a clear winner: The X6’s number one feature is also its most prominent feature. But we’re guessing it was one particular aspect of the 3.2-inch touchscreen that made nearly one in three of you place it top of the pile: the X6 is Nokia’s first capacitive touchscreen, and anyone who thinks that’s not significant should look at our poll results. Forum member James hit the nail on the head when he said it gave Nokia the finger responsivity so often boasted about by fans of a certain other smartphone.

Taking second place is a far less glamorous attribute, but one that’s just as much a part of what the X6 is all about – the generous 32GB of on-board storage. When you’ve got a phone that’s so good at so many things, you need plenty of space to store all that content, and 16 per cent of the vote shows you certainly recognise that.

But you’ll also get a long way with a pretty face, so much so that 15 per cent of you said the X6’s looks were its single best feature. The first time we laid eyes on the X6 we wrote about its “blow your mind design” – and we’re clearly not the only fans.

Just 11 per cent of you opted for Comes With Music as the X6’s standout feature, but unsurprisingly it was a vocal minority. We can’t say fairer than forumite Midhun’s comments:

“Say whatever you want , this behemoth is nothing but the next step in Nokia’s ultimate music device lineup.”

Midhun also pointed out one feature we missed – the X6’s awesome stereo speakers, pointing to the Nokia 5800’s pedigree in that department as an example of what Nokia is capable of.

The reworked homescreen layout and the X6’s five megapixel camera may have taken the minor placings, but we’d say that’s more a sign of how good its other features are. Similarly, while eight per cent of you went for “nothing”, we’ll take that as meaning no one feature stands out above the others, rather than there being nothing good about the X6.

In fact, we’ll leave the last word to commenter Jose:

“The best thing about the Nokia X6 is all those aspects already mentioned combined in just one device.”

I think that the restrictive vs. capacitive specs is a bit blown out by some users. Capacitive is nice to have, but I don’t think it’s a show stopper for buyer who would buy the X6 because of the looks + 32GB storage.

Anyway… i really think that X6 is very sexy and with 32GB it would be a legend… a nice phone that will sell well.

As for the come with music. It’s really a nice things to have but I don’t think it’s a must have. But…. I really wish nokia sell come with music in Indonesia. And I wish the price is right. because it’s a way to obtain legitimate songs cheaply in a country that people would rarely buy music legitimately.

It’s a PR things, and I think that post were somewhat right, and nokia really need to handle this… because… although nokia addict (i.e. me) would buy nokia product because of symbian OS or Maemo OS, some other users might be temped by other manufacture offer just by looking the specs.

For example. If someone want to buy symbian phone, and go to a store that sell a bunch of brand. by looking the SE satio Arm Cortex A8 + 256MB ram would be temped to buy satio instead of any nokia symbian, because the hardware said that nokia device is not powerfull. Not all user will do this. Nokia brand is very strong here. but if nokia didn’t handle this PR matter, the brand power will fade over time.

Nokia really need to speed up introducing their line up. they need to put arm cortex A8 now (or Q1 2010) on their top of the line offering on E-series, N-series, X-series.

And preparing the snapdragon handset for E-series, N-series and X-series as about the same time as their competitor were.

Another thing is. I am an E-series user. I love E-series because it suit me the best. I love the look of metal on E-series, strong build, office apps on device from day 1… and all about the E-series. But it seems to me and lots of E-series user that nokia try to KILL E-series.

While the X series (and Xpress Music) and N series got the symbian 5th edition, the E series have nothing more than 240×320 pixel screen. I’ve been holding my breath to get the E72 from the day OPK announced it. But when I went to nokia store today, it’s really a hard decision to make. After 2 hour comparing E72 and N97mini and N97 side by side. I finally choose not to buy new handset today. Hopping a miracle that nokia might release E73 or E80 with nHD screen (S60 5th edition) soon enough. Let me recap. the 240×320 is not good enough after seeing the nHD, but the N-series build is not as strong business phone look as E-series.

I also think that nokia need to make the E900 with Maemo to complement N900.

As for mid end and low end, I think nokia already went great. It’s 5800XM and it’s variant really rocks the mid-low end. Good job on this. :)

As I said above that I’m an E-series user.

In fact 2 years ago up till a couple of months ago, I would yell that I am a PROUD owner of Nokia E-series. But, as of today, I fell that my E-series were outdated, and the current/latest E-series doesn’t really suited me / reflect me as using the greatest device.

I remember just a couple week back nokia have a research about music genes. I would say that I have an E series genes, and I believe I’m not the only person who had the E-series genes. And I would expect that next year I would still be able to yell that I’m a proud owner/user of E-series… Instead of whispering “I’m used to be a proud owner of E-series but now using N series or other brand that doesn’t suit me well, but this is the best I can get.”

So… nokia… this is an open challenge for you. Can you make your E-series user happy? Can you provide us the latest E-series with the latest CPU, and the latest symbian OS (and/or Maemo OS) and plenty of storage…. (Why top of the line N series have 32GB internal storage + micro SD, but top of the line E series does not?)

Firstly i want to thank you for bear in mind my words, and sencondly i want to say that it is a shame that i couldn’t get the Nokia X6 when i went to Phones 4U in Bournemouth,UK the las 27 of november, because apparently i don’t have the credit history in the UK to get the pay montly plan whit Orange where the X6 is available(this is because i have been in the UK just for one month), so i had to took a contract for three months first to prove to Orange that i can take the X6 contract, anyways i will be expecting that day when i am going to upgrade my plan to have the X6 in my hands finally.
