Nokia X6 16GB launched
GLOBAL – Today sees the Nokia X6 get its very own baby brother in the form of a new 16GB model. Unlike its 32GB sibling, the 16GB version doesn’t Come with Music but its sizable on board storage still boasts enough space for 5,500 tracks. Outside that substantial storage sits a lush 3.2-inch widescreen capacitive touchscreen and four new finishes: all black, all white, white with pink highlights and white with yellow highlights. Read on to find out what else is in store.
Running the latest version of Symbian^1 the Nokia X6 16GB boasts up to 18 days standby time, 11.5 hours talktime (GSM), 4.5 hours of video playback and a whopping 35 hours of music playback! That’s enough time to listen to roughly 12 per cent of the tracks stored on the device.
Images are taken care of with a 5-megapixel camera sporting Carl Zeiss optics and dual LED flash. Shooting videos is a joy, not just because of the camera but the TV-out function enables you to watch your masterpieces on the big screen, too. And of course, you can edit your videos right there on the device.
The new Nokia X6 is compatible with the all-new Ovi Maps, offering free walk and drive navigation and tons of extras including Michelin and Lonely Planet guides.
Gamers will be happy with the pre-loaded games including Spore by EA, Asphalt4 and DJ Mix Tour by Gameloft.
The Nokia X6 16GB will be available this quarter.

whatever…
there is deadly silence on nokia’s part… symbian seems to be a liability rather than profit making platform….
nokia needs game changer and it starts with slick physical looks… vividness, colors, not only on physical appearance but also at UI levels.. take example of n900, utterly block, thick, plasticky, UI lacks vividness, splash of colors, beauty (though powerful OS)… i always say nokia when makes one thing right but at the same time makes other bad…
lets think n900 with these features:
- plastciky screen replaced with olephobic scratch-less glass
- a bit thin a few millimeters
- white metal around rather than black
- a bit of new innovation
- less buttons around
but… who listens

@sk well we see what your priorities are. Symbian is by far the most powerful OS for smartphones and are now being used for multimedia-capable phones. I could care less for aesthetics, as long as I have all the utilities I need to operate. Maemo has the promise to be THE OS of the next wave of smartphones. Android is gaining popularity, but Nokia, in my opinion, makes far better-quality phones than the current Android phone manufacturers (Samsung, HTC, Motorola).

had symbian was that powerful, iphone os wouldnt have made its place… very simple answer…
yes maemo os has potential, but lets see how the OS+hardware fights back iphone and others…
all i say nokia if had been that visionary, techy and had the right pulse, nokia would have bagged profit of millions of iphone that apple made… what do you say?????

Symbian not profit making??? you do know that more symbian phones get sold in one day then iphones in a week. sysmbian still has the largest market share and it looks to grow as nokia and other mobile manufacturers moves more of its mid market phones onto symbian

hey guys, dnt take it bad but i think its time to change your marketing strategy….same phone, only downgraded and same symbian^1
please please inovate
we consumers want inovation
new eperience
new hardware
new UI!!!!
(many NEW things)
not a “remix” phone
so please NOKIA guys do more of N900
even for the middle range and low range phones please innovate
lear from the critics
while your competitors are inovating everyday with eye candy and highly functional UI, others are boasting a 1Ghz cpu + HW Acc…
now some other guys are luukin’ fwd to have a core duo on their devices….crazy dnt think so
one thing i really appreciate lately if FREE OVI MAPS & UNlimited free navigation real marketing strategy and i luv it
but YOU DESIGNERS come up with new ideas . its nice to see your clips after a new device (bla bla bla) but when it comes to action we dont get much… all these “gestures philosophy” are good deals but the device designm UI design (ease of use and functionality) + WOW HARWARE play the most important role when u want to sell and get your end customer satisfied for what he/she paid for
hope you’ll read a customer’s point of view
peace

- blockish, no curves, cheap plasticky, tall, thick ( even fatter than moto driod that also has keyboard! – what the heck – is this the specialty of nokia design team)
- slow processor, slow browser
- no gestures
- no slickness
- HEFTY PRICE TAG (no no i am not going to buy that!)

Gimme N87 soon, or my money this year will go to Google or Apple. 12 Megapixels: Samsung and Sony Ericsson already have it.
If I were the CEO of Nokia, I would immediately channel more resources to Maemo and slowly(not too slowly) but surely phase out Symbian.

The rules are – Whatever sells wins. It is a phone I would consider over the original X6. If all phones are destined to become a sheet of glass, then this is it. The importance then shifts to the software on the phone. This is something that can be re invented, re written, improved and updated for all eternity. Unfortunately, I’ve already got an N86. The web pages are specially designed for S60 phones and there’s more software coming all the time. Brilliant.

i used iphone as well as s60 web pages. iphone is far ahead in terms of UX/UI
just run gmail on iphone and feel the difference…
iphone was launched in 2007 and now it is 2010, what did nokia do in these years… i wonder
had apple released iphone nanos (lower price point), nokia would have doomed!
we are all nokia fans, and like to remain in future but to what point should we resist…

I think Nokia is very lucky to have such a loyal and dedicated customer base. I have only used an iPhone chained to a desk in Tesco, or on demonstration in another shop elsewhere. I got to try and land aeroplanes, and I played on a drum kit. Yes it was fun, and novel. As a professional, who uses their phone for everything, I have to consider the sum total of the parts.
I think it’s a very exciting time for phones

Coming to f/w, I’m sure Nokia needs to improve a lot…!!!
Reason…
I use(rather, used) a N95 8GB phone and when I connect to my PC for a regular sync with Outlook, I was prompted to go for an update of phone’s s/w. Faithfully, I backed up the data and went for an update (from my existing v31 to v35) that requires a download of 131 MB of data. Once I began the update, although I had all the cable in tact and the phone was untouched, I was prompted to remove the data cable, battery and the charger, then connect the USB cable first, battery and then the charger, and press the power button. On doing so, (never thought that the phone was already in the graveyard) the prompt repeated almost 8 times and then a failure message shot up. I was asked to take the phone to a Nokia Care Centre.
Taking the phone to a NCC helped me in no way, I was asked to pay a non- refundable deposit for inspection of my phone. After 4 days of trial and error by ‘n’ number of engineers, I was handed back the phone in rather a pitiable condition.
A phone that was worth INR 35,000 (got it just when it was launched), now lies in my draw, ready for a hardness-testing by my 1+ year old child, he… he… he…
1. Now, having faced the warmth of firmware upgrades from Nokia, would I ever think of buying a Nokia phone again in my life? as the song goes, “Once bitten, twice shy…”, I wouldn’t be shy just twice, but rather run away from Nokia!!!
2. Although I have a backup of the data from the mass memory as a .nbu file, what point would it serve if I can’t find a media to restore it into? Isn’t this a waste of both time, money and unnecessary frustration for me?
Instead of going in for a phone with an inbuilt memory card, I would advise my fellow customers to go for a memory card.
!!!VERY VERY BAD SERVICE FROM NOKIA!!!

I have to say that, in my case, the service from Nokia has been excellent. Many companies could learn from Nokia’s commitment to help. If only the product was as good!
I have an N97 and have ongoing problems with it and am now onto my fifth phone. After going through my local Nokia Care Centre (where the service was good but they were unable to resolve the problem) I tracked down my local corporate headquarters where I was able to speak to a senior customer service manager who set me up with my own consultant who has been working with me to solve my issues. He is making a real effort to give me what I want.
The firmware upgrades that have come through in the couple of months I’ve had the phone have also been great improvements so Nokia gets an A for effort from me.

Once again Nokia disapoints me. I’m such a huge Nokia fan, but I live in North America which get little attention from Nokia. First the n900 is release with out 3g for AT&T, one of the biggest providers here. And where is the North American X6? And why fixed memory? I want a capacitive touch screen and expandable memory. I love Nokia, why don’t they love me back?

Some of you guys that there are people out there that don’t like or want the iPhone and just need a good smartphone with a long battery life.
Symbian, albeit its limits, has still the best battery record. Is it because it does few things? Perhaps, but the few things it does, it does them well.
Photography, music, and the casual PIM app is what many customers want from a smartphone, and that’s what a X6 16GB phone can deliver. At a lower price than the hyped iPhone 3GS 16GB.

I’m smoking European. That’s why you underestimate the prices.
It’s 200 dollars with a 2-year contract. That’s not the way we calculate the prices this side of the Atlantic.
A new iPhone 3GS 16GB in most continental EU countries costs some €600 new. We’re talking about unsubsidized prices here, no contract.

the features you mentioned are even available on 52xx,5800 then why to buy x6 just for capacitive screen????????????? still you cannot compare iphone 3gs, its a class of its own its somethin like comparing new 2000 model car with some modification to all brand new feature rich 2010 model
now ppl want New features to appeal, ppl want features, you know features, colors, slickness, vividness, a true appeal to mind and eyes!

It is a phone I would consider when migrating from any other Nokia device. Some people who held off getting a 5800 might be tempted by this one. Web pages for S60 are written just for that screen, so I have BBC, Digg, Delicious, and Facebook, that all are designed to fit the screen, and because they are compact, they load super quick. I have a choice of browsers, including Nokia, and the Opera browser I installed is still quite new which leads me to believe the best software is yet to be written. I can use Email through the Nokia app, or I have Hotmail installed now. Haven’t used either yet. Google also has an application I can install.
I can understand people don’t like seeing the same old things on the screen, it is a monotony that is tiresome to the eyes. A new user interface might be fantastic eye candy for the user, but recipients of my phone calls, texts & Emails won’t be receiving them any differently. In some way, the UI, must also deliver on function.
I wish someone would clarify what 12MPX does. Does it improve picture quality, or is it only useful for giant poster sized prints?

sk,
you might be sick of Symbian and its old feel, but nevertheless there are features in the latest models you can’t find even on a iPhone 3GS.
- excellent battery life
- widgets on screen
- 5 Megapixel camera
- free maps
- multitasking
The only domain an iPhone (or Android) wins hands-down is the app quality and quantity, and that’s because of the better App Store Apple and Google have, not the development options.
You can blame Nokia for many things, sitting on their laurels etc, but please blame them for the right reasons. In Apple people complain but still follow with a religious attention Job’s decisions. In Nokia we whine. I’m sick of it.
Some positive stance wouldn’t hurt. Don’t forget that 2010 is the year of Symbian^4 and Maemo 6.

Hello,
I think people are missing the point here. Comparing the iPhone to the Nokia N900 isn’t completely fair. The iPhone for all its innovation, is much rather a publicity stunt then anything else. The technologies apple previewed with their first iPhone prototype were already available in the open, Apple just managed to package them together with the iPhone OS.
I am not contesting the fact that iPhone does a lot of wonderful things … and some of them really well when compared to S60 or the Maemo platforms. Rendering webpages for example. That said if you look at the core parts of the iPhone .. its supposed to be a phone. Now as a mobile phone user I am used to taking certain things for granted.. like MMS or the ability to have message templates. iPhone has no signs of implementing these features in the near future. Has anyone seen the report on Call Qualities? S60 whoops iPhone.
Nokia makes great phones. iPhone is a gadget which can act like a phone. I am not saying Nokia has nothing to learn out of this. They indeed do. But I wouldn’t trust Apple to make a great phone .. an amazing gadget yes .. not a phone though. And that will always be Nokia’s strength … they just concentrate on making phones. Yeah they make other stuff too .. but they are more ancillaries than mainstream.
Just My 2 Cents.
I work as a mobile solutions architect in the UK and I work with all the major mobile platforms on a regular basis and that’s how I came about my opinions.

I have always loved NOKIA. I´ve enjoyed the N 95, N 95 8G, E 71, 5800, N 85 and now I am thinking about the E 72. But there are so many new offers from Motorola, Nexus one and now the next iPhone and the Sony Xperia 10 that frankly it will be very difficult for me to remain a loyal NOKIA fan if ther is not anything as new as Android, 4 “, 8.1 MPX, 1Ghz processor, and a new sexy and thin look. Please Nokia don´t let the competition win you. I know you want to sell in the future your cell business but if we continue like this I am afraid there won´t be any future. Thanks

The iphoner KILLER is here.
Its lighter.
its got the same technology screen, this time in true 16×9.
Its camera outclasses the iphone by miles, with a flash.
Its using a true multitasking OS – iphone os cannot multitask.
Its Maps dont require a constant internet connection, unlike the iphone which becomes a useless brick the second its used without internet connection.
Nokia X6 is a no brainer for me.

First of all there is no such thing as an iphone killer
-its lighter=crappy quality (plastic)
-it doesnt have the same technology screen i bet you anything that this phone is really unresponsive (plastic) unlike the iphones glass touchscreen
-the camera is better by 2 megapixels no big deal after all its a phone isnt it?
-so what if it can multitask its not like it benefits anyone, it makes the phone slow andpossibly freeze in which you would have to restart it. The iphone saves your progress or what you typed or whatever you did when you close an app and you can go right back to the app and it will be the way you left it. no need for multitasking.
-you do need a internet connection to load the maps however and with the iphone it saves the map or area that you were looking at so it’s pretty much the same if not better. and the iphone does not become a useless brick whenever you dont have internet. I bought mine used and didn’t want a data plan so i used it as an ipod, gaming device, camera, and clock when not in range of Wi-Fi. When im in range i could do anything i want.

How about taking the trackpad off a laptop and sticking it on the back of a phone. That way your hands don’t block the screen. On my Nokia N86 this could go on the backplate that gets exposed when you reveal the keypad. Would come in useful for browsing web pages.

am glad to see the new X6 with the scaled down memory to 16 GB. And this is fair enough for the phone of this size when plenty of sd with high capacities are available at fair price in the market. But again Nokia missed out of the option of having the memory card slot i believe. No where it is mentioning of the SD card slot.So bad nokia.

Nokia X6 combines fun and functionality in a totality. It offers three nice & free 3Dgames.The performance of camera and the web interface is amazingly well It supports 3 G technology that means it would support all the features available with such technology. Nokia X6 compact model is a step up and the long talk-time battery life is quite impressive and is especially suited for the business user.

The X6 16GB was launched on 26th January, 2010 & as I type this, it is already 25th February, 2010 AND still, there is no sign of this phone in INDIA yet….
I don’t understand why Nokia is being so biased with us…. Here in India, Cellphones are almost synonymous with Nokia & yet Nokia deprives us of new launches?!?!?!
For Nokia’s information, the X6 32GB & 16GB, both are available through the unofficial channel (grey market) here….
I have been waiting for this phone for almost a month & I still don’t see it coming to me…. even in a few more weeks!!!
I guess, I will have to look at other models like the Samsung Galaxy, Sony Ericsson Satio & the Samsung Omnia 2/ Omnia HD.
It feels really bitter to shift brand loyalty like this but has Nokia left any other option for me??? Other than waiting for endless time???
“Can someone please tell Nokia that losing loyal customers is not a great business strategy in todays business world….”

Hi, I’m V.K. Srivastava and I’ using Nokia from past 15 years approx. [i.e. from Nokia 5100 to Nokia 5800] especially for two reasons:
1.Battery backup
2. Rough & tuff handset
For such Goodwill [Battery backup & Rough & tuff handset] its price is quite higher than other handset Company. Almost from last 2 years, now some other 3-4 branded handset companies give tuff competition to Nokia in Indian market on the basis of some advance features / options, These are:-
1. Dual Sim
2. Metallic body
3. Higher mega pixel Camera [Exp.: Sony Satio – 12.1 mega pixel]
4. Large Display screen. [Exp.: Sony Satio – 3.5”approx., LG-BL-10cm]
5. Slimmer in size
6. Blinking light features on the top right corner of the handset. [Exp.: Samsung R220]
7. Scratch proof display glass. [Exp.: Samsung Amokd]
I suggest Nokia to work hard on my above suggested points [features / options] if they really want to maintain Monopoly in Indian Mobile market as like earlier because large group of Indian people wants above mentions features in their Nokia handset in cheap price because cost of living in India is much lower than other countries. Personally I’m anxiously waiting for Nokia X6 [16 / 32 GB] in Indian market almost with the price of Nokia 5800 or quit higher.
My good wishes to Nokia Co.

“had symbian was that powerful, iphone os wouldnt have made its place… very simple answer…”
Not true… People in the USA (iPhone Central) don’t care about utilities or power. They like ease of use and “appearance.”
No MMS on original iPhone, no GPS, no multitasking, …
I have the iPhone and am looking at Nokia, Android (HTC, others), and WinMo for a useful smartphone. The iPhone is really a terminal to me… While some apps work on the device with no connection to the Internet, most are games.
Give me a N900 with great phone functions–MMS, etc. Make it work in the USA. Sigh, seems easy to see what everyone wants but difficult for manufacturers to produce the items…
Hopefully, someone is listening…

I have bought an X6 32GB 3 weeks back.
Within the 1st week of using I have been forced to hard reset twice because it stuck at Nokia startup screen.
Then, a couple of times, it just lag and worse freeze and restart my device.
Yesterday, a serious problem occured. I can’t charge my phone due to hardware problem (worse not battery as I can charge using another phone).
Anyway, the firmware is very buggy!!!
AND 1 SUGGESTION TO NOKIA, PLEASE ALLOW X6 TO UPGRADE TO SYMBIAN^3 WHEN IT’S RELEASED!!! I THINK THE PRICE I PAID DESERVES IT.
Does the price justify for X6 if I’m stuck to Symbian^1 and with buggy firmware and worse faulty hardware?
X6 owners please post it anywhere you can to ask for an UPGRADE TO SYMBIAN^3!:)

You do realize this is hard reset right?_?
All your data such as Contacts, Messages etc will be gone…
I have a better solution…
Tried on N97…
Take out your battery and keep pressing the Power button.
Insert battery and wait for the vibration…
then take your battery out immediately..
Repeat this for a couple of times then your phone will start and you can backup your phone and do a reinstall on firmware..
By the way, this issue is due to Application crashed in E drive. I’m very sure.
Hard reset isn’t the best way but still a good solution when nothing else can work:)

Why does everyone so obsessed with their phone having alot of metal parts? if you guys hate those stinkin plastic so much, dont buy nokia, or live your life without plastic stuff…dont buy laptops, your household stuff and maybe your toilet seats, cuz they don’t have lots of metal features! they are not forcing you to buy their products, ask ur apple company or whatever to make a phone out of solid metal for ya all if you like metal so much!!

ihave the same problem with my x6 16g. the screen freezes on power-up. i’m on my 3rd phone as well and still the same problem. i will be recieving my 4th phone on 020610 with a new sim card. apparantly the sim card i’ve been using is too old for the new x6. it’s the original sim from my nokia 6500s that i got back in ‘08. hopefully this will resolve the issue. i will definitely try the camera key/green button one. thankyou for posting. i too have been searching everywhere and it is the 1st time i’ve seen this. hopefully it will work for my x6 as well.

i’ve just tried the camera/green and red button trick but to no avail. so it must be the sim-card in this particular case. i can’t see how a 2yr old sim-card should have such a profound effect on the x6. the phone it was in was also a nokia running the same type of o/s. anyway i will find out on wednesday and let you guys know. by the way the x6 is a great phone isn’t it! i’ve compared it to my nexus1 and it certainly holds its own against what i think is the best smartphone out there today. the x6 has a better camera with double led flash, has far superior sound quality, it has .eal sat-nav qualities because its maps are pre-loaded and so doesn’t have to make a data connection for an address as is the case with the nexus1 and it looks very sexy!!

Please overclock Nokia X6 processor &
Give Nokia X6 Virtual Memory &
Probably give Nokia X6 a “Lite” version of Symbian^3 (Maybe running at 30fps instead of 60fps to reduce hardware requirement)
And Multitouch if Symbian^3 is not possible.
I’m sure it’s possible. It’s just whether you guys in Nokia wants to give it to us or not.
Look at Apple.
iOS4 is available for Iphone 3g, Iphone 3gs and Ipod Touch.
They don’t just forget about their older products.
Moreover, Nokia X6 ain’t that old.
Hoping for a better future for Nokia X6

i paid € 350 for my nokia X6, i already regret that i bought this phone if it doesn’t get the Symbian^3 OS.
it’s a nice phone, but Symbian^1 is full of bugs. my phone crashed 2 times in 2 weeks.
i think i paid enough to get a decent OS!
i have always been loyal to Nokia, ever since my first Nokia 3330 up to my X6 right now,
if the Symbian^3 OS will not be available for my phone, my next one won’t be Nokia anymore.

A Chinese friend bought X6 in Sydney, no Chinese display and input at all. I can send a SMS, mixed with English, Chinese and Japanese from my iPhone to an old Nokia phone but it won’t display on this X6. Why

When I first owned a GSM NOKIA phone back in 1993 I valued the intuitive UI, and logical menus. There is a genius about the NOKIA interface – it’s in the DNA of NOKIA.
About to upgrade after three years with my trusty NOKIA 6234, I value quick access to features such as a quality camera, ideally a HD video with high quality microphone, voice memo, reminders, large text display, timed profiles, and a flashlight. Even the countdown timer is invaluable. I will also appreciate that it connects to a stereo to play music. Maps and net browsing I am sure will become features equally essential to me the more I use them.
My loyalty to NOKIA is fuelled each time I buy one of their phones which has always been intelligently improved over the previous model.
NOKIA elects to target baby boomers like me who are a larger and bigger spending segment than Gen Y and younger.
The debate here about technology and feature comparisons is tiresome as it does not seem to be grounded in the extended experience of real world users. As always, those who clamour for richer specifications offer no appreciation of marketing principles.
I will look forward to further evaluating the X6.

Bad Phone
Poor SERVICE…
I bought this phone(8 GB) for my wife 2 weeks back, After going home I discovered that the phone speakers have issues and the speaker makes noise at the top 3 volume level. I submitted the phone back to the dealer the next day, But I haven’t received it back till date, I have to buy another phone for her as earlier phone had stopped working.
They are not ready to exchange/money back as they are saying the model have some issue.
If they accept the model have the issue why are they still selling it in the market, this is pathetic service experience from Nokia.
I would suggest not to buy this phone.

Hi well ,i dont know who else actualy, bought this phone and unsure why all coomets when you own one, however having said that ive been with nokia for 6yrs and they are very srong and tend to be forgiving ,nowi have just got the new X6 and i am no geek about phones and before i got it i thought any one who has a phone that does more than ring is a geek .
Well you are !! and i guess i am now too ? why caos for the first time for me i have a brand new phone.sure it’s quirky, odd and even lacking in soem area’s.
But it blew me away the second day i got it ,that’s right the second day !! the first day i could not even turn it on without help from my 17 yr old daughter .and i have had it now a week .
All i can say is this !! ” why ahve i waited so long to get a device that prety much does every thing i want “and more.
It is amaizing and i canot belive the priice and the details that has gone into the making and creation of a work of art ,
this may not be the best phone in the world or even ,make girls swoon over the looks but it does ahve somthing else ,”likeability” i like it ,its fast freindly and fun,and if i could give one to all the old guys in the world like me we would be going to mars the week after!!.
However it does sadden me to think we can create a masterpeice like this but we canot cure some dicease that folks are dying with and still we make them better ,faster, smaller, and well dam amazing
i have been using the nokia brick am told Nokia 6680 for a few years now and before that the old 6100 and that took me 3months to learn how to put any thing on it.yesterday i have compressed a file my self and wached it on the phone how more easy can you get.Buy one .this baby will be worth it’s weight to any owner and a pleasure to use .
bad point ? well its very light and for me i forget i am holding it . the battery did not last long the first few days,
otherwise ,it supercalafradgalistikexpialadocious ad if you know what that means then you are as ol;d as me and problebly not reading this !! therfore it dont matter if are still unsure go look it up and enjoy
Well done nokia !!!! am sutibley impressed and if i had more time than the 10 mins in between using my X6 and playing (*thats right i play on the phone* )then this would be faster, more user freindly and fun !!
btw this is my first post too !!

WE NEED FREE UPGRAD TO SYMBIAN^3 AFTER ITS REALEASE.
BECAUSE CAPACITATIVE TOUCH SCREEN IS NOT A VERY BIG PLUS POINT COMPARED TO 5800 AND AN UPGRADE TO SYMBIAN^3 WILL BE A GOOD WAY TO SCORE POINTS WITH YOUR CUSTOMERS .

The phone is great. X6 is really a smart solution to a lot of my needs that involve IT.
There is one problem, though, it turns itself OFF by itself and i don’t know what to do to repair it. Restarting doesn’t help.
If you have any syggestions please send an email to zapopalvane@yahoo.com
Thank you!!!
