GLOBAL – So you’ve got the gold rings, the gold taps on your bath, the gold rims on your Bentley. But what next? Well there’s a gold lamé suit, there’s a gold watch and if you need them, how about some gold-rimmed glasses? Gold is a wonderful, if precious thing, and it’s been glittering its way into people’s lives for centuries. What’s the fascination? Well I’m not really sure, but it is quite pretty to look at. GLOBAL – Writing on the New York Times blog last week, Nick Bilton posted a wishlist of features for next-gen smartphones. The list was as varied as it was interesting and made us think it’d make a good poll subject. We’ve rounded up the list as our primary options for voting, but as ever, you’ve got the option to add your own too. If you want some inspiration, then think about some of the suggestions we showed off at last November’s “The Way We Live Next” event, where some concepts from potential devices from 2015 were shown off in a cool little video. There’s a world of opportunity for next-gen smartphone devices – what do you think will be the killer features?

GLOBAL – The N97 mini and N97 are the first handsets to play host to a new game that utilizes the talents of the digital compass sensor ( or ‘magnetometer’ as it’s otherwise known). Space Impact: Meteor Shield has just landed on planet Ovi Store, and you can downloaded it for free. GLOBAL – There are various reports circulating about the use of chemicals in a mobile device component factory in China. Wintek is a Nokia supplier, and provides components for its mobile phones, but N-Hexane is and has NOT been used on Nokia’s production lines at this supplier. Nokia strictly forbids all use of chemicals which are illegal. You can read the full statement after the jump.

GLOBAL – Over 1,500 of you responded to last week’s poll, which asked “what kind of MeeGo devices do you want to see?” It was a tremendous response and by the looks of it a pretty close run thing, with just half a percentage point separating the top two choices. Mobile Computers came out on top though, with eight more votes than its second place rival, Media Phones. We can’t remember the last time a poll closed with such tight results.
