Nokia C5 unveiled
By JBC on 02 March 2010
GLOBAL – Today sees the unveiling of both a new device, the Nokia C5, and a new naming convention, Nokia Cseries (more on that later). The C5 is a smartphone packed into a feature phone body, boasting S60 3rd edition and a host of messaging and social networking features built in. It also boasts a bright 2.2-inch display and a 3.2-megapixel camera. It also comes packing free walk and drive navigation courtesy of Ovi Maps and is ready for messaging with Nokia Messaging built in.
The Nokia C5 boasts a cool new feature in its phone book, where you can see your friends status updates directly from Facebook. You can also update your Facebook status easily and share your location with Ovi Maps 3.0.
The homescreen will show off your favourite three friends for easy access to calling and messaging whilst Nokia Messaging enables you to keep in touch on IM using Google Talk or Windows Live Messenger.
Storage is the mircoSD variety with support for up to 16GB cards – the Nokia C5 will come with a 2GB card in the box, plenty of room for storing music and with the built in stereo FM radio and 3.5mm AV connector, not to mention the Stereo IHF speaker, it should sound good too.
The device is small too, measuring just over 12mm thin and 46mm across (and 112mm high). Battery life is good for up to 12 hours talktime (GSM) and it’ll stay on standby for a whopping 26 days between charges.
Available in white and warm grey, the Nokia C5 will be available in the second quarter of 2010 globally in Europe, Eurasia, SEAP, China and MEA. The anticipated retail price, before applicable taxes and subsidies is €135. It looks rather nice too. Let us know what you think below.

Looks sexy…. Seems to have nearly the same features as 6303 and 6700.
Except S60, the good old midrange S40 divices seem to disappear and getting replaced with S60?!
Price is good, too…. Stainless steel, great!
I will definitely take a close look!!

Looking at the images, I can assume this device comes with Ovi Maps preinstalled. Will this be included with the free navigation Nokia ‘promised’ to come to other devices as well?

Yes, it has free navigation (and the even-newer Ovi Maps 3.4 apparently). My understanding is that every Nokia from here on out with GPS will have free navigation.
I’d like to know about a compass too!

Wow, what to say? On the one hand this is really nothing special- my N78 will be 2 years old when this one comes out and it’ll have most of its features, including the same OS.
2 years is a looong time in this industry.
On the other hand it looks to be a perfectly fine phone for anybody who doesn’t want/need a touchscreen with free navigation, a slim package and a good price.
It all depends on how you look at it.

Will we get this in the US, preferably with ATT 3G?

With no doubt – a good looking phone. But I hope honestly that Nokia has some bigger news for us than Low-Entry-Hardware.
In fact that HTC or Samsung will release their brandnew flagships (Desire, Legend, Wave) in a short time, it would be a mistake to wait too long for announcing real Nokia-Flagships. In this case I can imagine that also Nokia-Fans could change their favourite brand. So come on Nokia. Prove, that you are still a leading manufacturer. Now !

What does Nokia mean by the following on the C6’s web page:
“Free navigation is for the lifetime of the phone.”
How long is the phone’s lifetime? Is it in perpetuity? Or is it the two-year “device lifetime” licence that Navigator devices shipped with?

Since all new GPS phones Nokia ships have the new free navigation you can be assured it’s not limited to 2 years.

It’s a f**king Nokia one. It’ll probably survive the apocalypse.
Nokia phones may not have the best usability, but they are sturdy unlike crap companies like Samsung produce.

Nice to see some new concepts (Friend’s status update on contacts) in C series phone..
But I think, it would have been better if this device had qwerty keyboard instead, as the device will be preferred mostly by social networking lovers.

Does this phone have wi-fi? If so then I will be very interested to purchase as I do not want or need an expensive data plan. With wi-fi I can occasionally use the phone to get online to get email or look at websites. A 2.2″ screen hardly lends itself to extensive web use. I would like to have a phone with decent camera, GPS, FM radio and MP3 player that can be used to occassionally get online via wi-fi. If this phone comes with wi-fi it will satisfy all of those requirements.
Last question, will it be available in the US?

I really like this device, the only weak point I can think of is that there’s only 50MB of internal storage, and I want more of that to store MMSes and so on.
I find it a bit annoying that S60 devices from 2007 have more internal storage than the S60 devices Nokia release now.

looks pretty clean and elegant, but i wonder whether it comes with built-in GPS or not? and the keyboard is apparently copied from that of 6730, which i’ve seen scores of guys complain its awkwardness to use, especially the function keys (the navi, the soft keys, and the send/end keys)~

It looks like a pretty decent phone, although I’d like to see Nokia going more in the direction of touchscreen Symbian-devices.
By myself I own a Nokia XpressMusic 5530 and I must say I like it. It has had it’s problems, but after the latest firmware update everything is working like a charm.
The looks of the 5530 are good, and I think it shows the way Nokia should go – buttonless phones with a little-bit-larger-than-average touch screen.
The form factor we’re seeing with the Nokia C5 is rather standard for Nokia. Although the interface looks improved for a button phone, it still gives me the idea that this is not a special phone, but will be one of those ‘budget’ phones like the 3110 Classic.
I don’t know what to say… should Nokia keep producing these types of phones?
Anyways, good job on the interface, people! It looks nice, fresh and vibrant.

on the down side, being a nokia, deploying software on it requires stupid symbiansigned procedures so it is not a developer’s phone. to all the developers out there, why take symbiansigned crap, when you can develop for a better platform such as android, or even blackberry where signing code is just $20 for pretty much lifetime.

Same, I have only owned Nokia’s ever since I’ve been using cellphones. Sure Nokia may not be the hottest smartnphone maker in the world, but if I dropped a smart phone the number of times I dropped my Nokia I would be a broke ass. Nokia’s phones are practical, and functional.

Looks like a very decent mobile. Only i wonder why it has such a weak video cameramodus: it only gets till 8 frames per second whilst others go easily till 30 fps.
Maybe that’s for easier posting little movies on netwerk sites, but still, if it would have 30 fps it would have been the ultimate all-in-one mobile for me.
Nice device though.

put a larger 3.2 inch screen and get the keypad to slide under the phone body.. That would be a incredible combination for this phone design.. I would paint that phone model on my back and roam around naked for publicity..Its painful to use a candybar which compromizes with screen size for adding the stupid buttons on the top side

always loved using Nokia phones untill recently.
I purchased N95 8GB from a US website and it worked beautifully about 18 months until my internal memory got corrupted. I spent more than 100 hours on the phone with Nokia support (which hard to understand and speak English, call centre was somewhere in Philippine) finally they gave up and asked me to sen the phone for repaire to a third party service centre in the US (NOKIA DOESN’T HAVE ANY LOCAL SUPPORT – THIS SUCKS). I sent the phone three times to this place and every time they sent it claiming that they have fixed it. The truth of the matter is NOT fixed. The last time they sent it back without any docs and when I called them they said. Sorry we can’t fix it. At any cost
This phone cost me more than $500.00 and now it is useless in less than 20 months.
NOKIA get a grip and be serious about supporting you products. If you have any chance in making it big in the US, get you fat AS—-SS here and support your product properly.
Anybody who lives in the US and thinking about buying a NOKIA phone think again.

PLS MAKE IT GREATER THAN MY 6700
- small and thin candy bar style (OK)
- with silver classy style (OK)
- more than 8GIG microsd ( Very OK 16G)
but..
unlike 6700
- internal memory should be 170MB or more (its just 50)
- it should be 5megapixels or more (but its just 3.2)
..so ill have a NEW PHONE but not going back to older specs

All is good about C5. But in india customers are facing a typical problem with this model. It is not working with Airtel & Vodafone networks ( two major GSM operators in India) .
Many customers highlighted this issue but nothing yet came out from Nokia.

I have Nokia C5 now.
Airtel and Vodafone sim is working fine in it.
I haven’t tested these sim card in dual mode but its just fine in Gsm mode.
You can change Dual mode to Gsm mode in SETTINGS.
The only problem i am facing is restarting automatically while working and rest all features are excellent.
I am a tight budgeted player so why should i buy Nokia C6 or E5 if we get related features in an affordable price?
I know it doesn’t support Wifi connectivity but for me it doesn’t matter.
So i suggest you all guys to go for Nokia C5 only if you don’t need Wifi connectivity because rest all other company handsets does not provide this type of features for this price ie.,Rs7999/-
