SALO, Finland and BEIJING, China – The first Nokia N8 devices have left the factories in Finland and China and are now making their way around the world. First recipients will be those who pre-ordered and with the highest ever pre-order for a Nokia device, there will be plenty of happy Nokia N8 users over the coming weeks.
LONDON, England – Shortly after Nokia World came to an end, we asked you which of the new devices announced caught your eye the most. Did you prefer something small and sleek like the Nokia C6-01? Or something big, bold and beautiful like the Nokia E7? Let’s find out, as we look at the results of ‘What was your favourite device from Nokia World 2010?’.

ROSENGÅRD, Sweden - Last week, the Nokia N8 broke a world record for the world’s smallest stop motion animation, named Dot. Then on Saturday, the folks at Nokia Sweden decided to go the other way, erecting what must count as one of the world’s biggest cinema screens. Residents of the city district of Rosengård were treated to a movie night they will never forget, powered by a Nokia N8 through it’s HDMI port in stunning high-definition.

CAMBRIDGE, England – Typically, a human hair is about 70 micrometers thick. The lead image for this article shows a human hair with the words Cambridge and Nokia written on it by Focused Ion Beam (FIB). The line width of each of the letters is 150 nanometers. The nanowires used by the team at Nokia Research Center Cambridge are as long as the letter i you see in the image, but more than three times thinner at 20-50 nanometers. To say that the team like working in miniature is a gross understatement.

CAMBRIDGE, England – Getting into a Nokia Research Center laboratory isn’t easy. The security doors remain open long enough for one or two people to enter and if held open too long, will sound what we’re told is an exceptionally loud alarm. Lucky then that we were part of a group taken around NRC’s Cambridge laboratory to see some of the latest scientific problems being solved there. We were treated to demoes of three different strands of research; Nanowire Sensing, Stretchable Electronic Skin and Electrotactile Experience. Each one as amazing and eye-opening as the next. Read on after the jump for a lowdown including pics and video.
GLOBAL – We’ve already asked how many apps you’ve downloaded over the past three months, but this week we’re really keen to know more about the services you use from Ovi. Apps are one thing, but a service can offer you much more then an app can, and really integrate itself into your device. Nokia offers a wide range of services to make your life a little easier, so read on and let us know which ones you use. Feel free to leave a comment and let us know what you think of your favourite services too.
GLOBAL – The folks from irkafirka have trawled through last week’s comments on Conversations to find one suitable for permanent posterity in cartoon form. The one that stood out this week was comment number 78 from the Nokia N8 shipping update. The original source for the inspiration came from the post’s first line ‘Spoiled kids of the “instant gratification” generation. It’s just a phone for crying out loud.’ Check out the full cartoon after the jump. Meanwhile, Intosh will be getting a framed copy of the original drawing as a reward for his efforts.
