Nokia boosts Play To app

Published by Karen Bartlett on October 21, 2011

GLOBAL – Remember when you had a few drinks and pretended you had a ginger mustache? Now you can use the zoom on your handset to send that photo wirelessly to the TV so that everyone else can enjoy it too. It’s particularly good when you’re showing off a handset in a work presentation. See?

Ginger mustache for play to appUsing the Nokia Play To app with Symbian Belle you can send videos and photos wirelessly to a TV. Or you can call up music stored on your cell phone  and listen to it on your home audio system.

You need a network with WLAN access as well as a device capable of playing DLNA (like a TV, A/V amplifier, Blu-ray player or PS3 game console)

Then you just launch Play To, select the device and media you want, and away you go!

The new site looks really nice, but little confusing also!

I don’t think the new site is confusing at all. It looks like Windows Phone, actually. Other than that, I think the team did a very good job! I can even scroll endlessly to see older articles from Nokia Conversations. I’m very glad about this change.

LOVE the new site. Feels so much better.

nice job guys, well done. i like the sidebars a lot! very clean site, go easy on the eyes!

The site sucks if you use Nokia Web or Opera Mini…
Hope you have something cool for mobile users soon,

Great “futuristic” site but I guess we need time to get used to it… Why do notification bar links open on other tab?

  • arg0

That looks so much like Windows Phone Live Tiles… except that the tiles are not live at all! On desktops, images underlying a tile are revealed by mouseover and that’s acceptable. On touch screens it’s much worse: since there is no mouseover, the tiles require a tap to reveal the image and a second tap to see the article. Confusing and disappointing.

    “Junkyard”

That was my first reaction on seeing this new look of conversations!

The trojans infections have become deep-rooted now. This site is worse than Windows 7/7.5/8!

TIME TO SAY GOOD BYE TO NOKIA!

I’m Having a lot of problems with this new site. Any window with video freezes when opening for about 30 seconds. And don’t tell me to update my browser. I’m running IE8 and company policy prevents upgrading.

  • Xyberxy

    tiles sucks

please don’t make nokia ala microsoft

  • Hyry

The site works with Firefox rather smoothly, but not with IE8. Blocks the screen for 1/2 minute when clicking videos.

Great site guys. Loads like a dream on my WP7 ie9. All those having rendering issues with Opera and the Nokia browser need to start thinking about getting a Sea Ray when its out in November. Come enjoy the joy of Mango.

Pure is a beauty, thanks for this! The only thing is that the header on the first page looks a little blurry on firefox/winxp.

He hates Helvetica: “It’s vanilla ice cream,” horrendous, poorly crafted and American.

Ya well I’m American. Glad to know that a key part of Nokia’s team dislikes Americans. And you want us to buy your product. Know who reads your blog and check your articles. I found that line very offensive.

why not make that the home page, do you want the majority of visitors to only find 1 article?

What offends me more is the Font he created, what happened to the ‘e’ and why does it look so horrendous? Most importantly if they replace Segoe on their WP7 devices with Pure i wont even consider them for purchase. Segoe makes this font look like how he described Helvetica

A bit better, still the old site seemed to better show off your articles and make it easier to get to the older ones.

    Well said!

It puzzles me how these modern designers come on to the stage and pass hot air as a new product, and spew all sorts of things on the founding fathers of font design.

As for Helvetica, it’s one of the best fonts ever made and is applied in a variety of settings, which I cannot say for this new font on the site that can hardly render consistently across displays.
