Nokia Lumia 800 reviews back new Windows Phone

Published by Trevor Davies on November 17, 2011

GLOBAL – You might have guessed by now that we at Conversations by Nokia love the new Lumia 800. And it’s good to know that we are not alone. If you still need convincing that the new Nokia Lumia 800 is a great phone, have a look at these reviews from some of the biggest tech sites on the web.

The Next Web Nokia Lumia 800 review

The Next Web says: “Nokia has created something that is somehow greater than the sum of its parts.”

Forbes Nokia Lumia review

Forbes says: “The gamble worked. Nokia has not only stabilised their position in the pecking order, but they’ve shown that the radical change to Nokia as a company is far from over. “

Know Your Mobile Nokia Lumia 800 review

Know Your Mobile says: “It feels like the first Windows Phone smartphone we could compare with the iPhone, because the minimalist design and thoughtful layout is clearly the work of a company that looks at the smallest of details, much like Apple.”

Metro Nokia Lumia 800 review

London’s Metro newspaper says: “One of the most important aspects about the new Nokia, and the one that may well help it become a best-seller, is its pricing.”

Mail Online Nokia Lumia 800 review

The Mail on Sunday‘s UK tech guru Rob Waugh says: “The phone is gorgeous on the outside, courtesy of a moulded-polycarbonate design lifted from Nokia’s N8 and a luxurious-feeling high-contrast touchscreen.”

It would help if the Mail on Sunday did a crumb of research and said the poly-carbonate is from the N9, not the N8. Daft mistakes like that just end up confusing unknowing customers. Glad to see reviews being positive though, feels good that Nokia are finally getting some love  :)

Wish Nokia would have done a survey on Conversations before they decided to pick Windows instead of Meego or Android,Lumia 800 might look o.k but its the Restrictions with Windows that have made me keep hold on my N8 or look to buy the N9 soon,if Windows was a bit more like Symbian the switch would have been more easier, but its to restricted,Bluetooth one of the Best applictions on Symbian phones to swap photos or misic with someone elses phone, but not like this on Windows you can not do this,an why no micro sd card slot is totally odd,Nokia just trying to copy the iPhones or not

    • Cod3rror

It seems Microkia wants to attract iphone users as wp os is all about restrictions….force customers to use Zune software to transfer files,no true multitasking,no customization etc etc but they dont care about current symbian users

Thanks an i think Nokia as made the wrong Choice, an N8 worth twice as much as Lumia 800 an how can Nokia value this phone over £400 its amazes me

  • MobileStrongBOX

Any sane poeple know that all that positive articles are because of hardware design of the phone (actaully ‘stolen’ from N9), not the Microsoft software on it. WP Mango is out for some time ago and did not received such posizitve, so it’s clear who deserve the ‘glory’. People would buy the phone because they can not buy the better N9, because  CEO Elop knows that Lumia 800 would not have a chance against N9 and decided to not release N9 in main countries like UK or Germany. I think that is the REAL PROVE that even Elop know MeeGo is better than WP Mango. Otherwise why not release the N9 in those countries to see whose the best????

    • MobileStrongBOX

com’on guys (from NOKIA), we are not stupid, we know the real truth

      Fixed!

Nice try, but does not work! Please search the net, the swipe gestures of MeeGo and the symplicity of it, also were highly appreciated!

You forgot to mention, that MeeGo was also reviewed as highly unstable, sluggish at times and generally not ready for prime-time.

I have been using an LG Windows Phone for about six months now and I absolutely love the OS but find the hardware uninspiring. I want the Lumia 800 right now but since I live in Canada, I’m going to have to wait and that is HARD. I’m off to Copenhagen and Hamburg in a few weeks: I just might pick a phone up while in Europe. But would it work in Canada? I can’t wait!!!

If you will be in Copenhagen, you have to buy Nokia N9. Discover the real beauty outside and inside. :-)

I’m sure Canada will feature prominently in Nokia’s plans. Not that thats got anything to do with their new CEO or anything ;)

I would like to read articles about Symbian Belle and Anna phones, some reviews about Nokia Store applications, about Nokia N9 device. It could be nice if in your articles you can answer on questions like: When Belle update will be for N8 phone, why Nokia won’t sell Nokia N9 in Germany and UK, is Nokia has any plans to release new Symbian version with something starting with “C”, is Nokia going to support Qt on future windows phones? You see, you have a lot of material you completely forgot with your microsoft marketing campaign.

We have some interesting pieces coming up on the N9 in the next few days, so stay tuned! This is the week Lumia 800 hits the shops, so right now we’re heavily focusing on that stuff.

          • Annika

way to heavily, so you scare your readers.

Can never get “too heavy” about the Lumia 800. It’s the best device Nokia has produced in years, so it makes a lot of sense to feature it like this.

That does make sense. After the N9 launch, there were a series of articles about this, the most gorgeous phone on the market right now (OK, yes, I now I’m a little biased) :)

Please… the N9 is a really nice phone… but why must so many meego fans troll every Lumia thread on the internet? You may not have done any other threads yourself, but as a group the meego fans seem really annoying and it does not help the cause if you grow badwill among other phone buyers.

The best way you can help meego is by purchasing the phone and explain the benefits of it where appropriate.

Good work on the prize Nokia. Both the N9 and Lumia are awesome phones.

Most open-source trolls seem to behave that way for some reason. If you’re not with them, you’re clearly a moron, bribed by MS or something like that.

        It’s sad, really.

Hard decission…N9 or Lumia…I really like the Lumia 800 and I think the design is the best ever.
For many business people it is clear that Nokia Lumia 701 and 800 will be very popular. For ordinary people also and to me …
    Welcome back Nokia

PS Will make a boast for the newer Symbian also that is far vetter than people think, Nokia 701 for example and also Nokia E6 that is forgotten among retailers.
