Nokia Maps 3.08

GLOBAL – If you’ve got yourself a Symbian Anna or Belle-powered phone, you’ll be glad to hear that there’s a new version of Nokia Maps v3.08 available to download from Nokia Store. For those running Symbian Anna, this update will come via Nokia Suite or the Software Update app on your phone shortly.

With this release of Nokia Maps for Symbian we wanted to focus on specific use cases to make it easier for you to access your favourite features.

In fact, Nokia Maps v3.08 now comes with four shortcuts on your Nokia Symbian smartphone home screen: Maps, Drive, Check in and Guides. You can add them by selecting ‘add widget’ > ‘map apps’.

In other words, it’s now faster for you to start the apps you want. Are you driving a car and want to use Nokia’s free voice-guided turn-by-turn navigation with life traffic updates? All it takes is a tap on your home screen.

Do you want to explore the area around you, search for places and walk to them? All it takes is a tap on your home screen.

This is the same difference between Nokia Maps and Nokia Drive you can find on Nokia N9 or on the Nokia Lumia series.

Nokia Maps 3.08 SMS sharing

To shape Nokia’s location based apps around specific use cases, we are introducing live traffic rerouting with Nokia Maps v3.08 for all of you who are commuting every day and want to avoid traffic jams.

Drivers will also enjoy an easier user interface, which unveils its full potential with Nokia Car Mode with Mirror Link support. More features are coming to the next Nokia Maps releases for Symbian and you can already try them out now. Indeed, you can add four more apps to your collection right away by downloading them from Nokia Beta Labs:

  • Public Transport to plan your journey from here to there easily.
  • Pulse to privately share and discuss your location, photos, and more.
  • Live View to easily find information and services on the go with the help of augmented reality.
  • Places to discover the world around you.

Hello Adam… is that map widget only available for Symbian Belle? I already updated on Anna but I have no such option on widget list. BR!

Yes – Anna gets the extra app buttons, but you need Anna for the actual map on the home screen.

@Ian Delaney: you mean we need Belle for the actual map on the homescreen, not Anna ;-)

    Nice. I like it :)

Btw, how does it work, if I send location via sms to someone? Can you throw some light on it.

Also, can you write two lines (in the article) about the functionality of three buttons (or whatever you want to call them) on the Widget…

I absolutely swear by Nokia Maps and have come to rely on it in preference to TT or car-integrated satnav. Nokia Drive on the Lumia is not a patch on Nokia Maps. Sadly, the Lumia uses a micro-sim which is incompatible with my previous Nokia smart phones [X6 and N8] so I can’t switch back and forth.

In my view, the features on the Lumia are a quantum leap backwards for Nokia.

i don’t like the new Maps because i can’t customise a route like in the 3.06 version, if i want a custom route i have to make it in advance on the pc and then sinch it. big fail with this bug. another fail is that previous radars that were fixed cameras now they don’t even apear. I rather rollback to 3.06 than using 3.08
