Nokia Lumia 710 hits the States with T-Mobile USA

A fan of Lumia 710s

NEW YORK, NY, United States – Nokia and T-Mobile today announce that the Nokia Lumia 710 will be coming to the US in early January. The phone offers excellent technology in an extremely affordable package, allowing people in all walks of life access to a highly polished and intuitive smartphone experience.

Keeping you close to the people that matter is at the heart of Nokia’s Lumia experience. The Nokia Lumia 710 is designed to be the hub of your social media and communications life. Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn are automatically integrated into the People Hub to show the latest social updates from your contacts alongside their pictures and contact details.

The screen quality is excellent, visible even in the brightest sunlight thanks to the ClearBlack TFT display, which also helps boost the contrast to make colours glow. You won’t have to squint either: a pin-sharp resolution of 800 x 400 pixels on a 3.7-inch panel makes text fully readable and pictures crisp.

The Lumia 710 camera

No need to carry a separate camera with the Nokia Lumia 710. On the back, there’s a five-megapixel, auto-focus camera that can also capture HD video. The results of your creative work can be shared straight from the camera software. You can either upload your photos to Facebook for social sharing, or to SkyDrive, Microsoft’s free cloud storage service, which gives you close control over access.

Specifications

  • 1.4GHz processor, with hardware acceleration and graphics processor
  • 8GB storage memory
  • 512MB RAM
  • Quadband radio
  • 3G up to HSDPA+ and T-Mobile 4G
  • WiFi and Bluetooth
  • 119 x 62.4 x 12.5mm
  • Weighs 125.5g

This being a Nokia, Maps are a key part of the proposition. You won’t get lost thanks to the downloadable Nokia Maps from Marketplace and Nokia Drive’s powerful, intuitive and free turn-by-turn voice-guided navigation. Elsewhere entertainment and business are equally well catered for. On the one hand, there’s Xbox integration and a wealth of top-titles to play on the move. On the other, there’s a full Microsoft Office suite, including access to cloud storage, so you’re never far away from your work documents.

Coming in white-on-black and black-on-black versions, the Nokia Lumia 710 is expected to be available on January 11, 2012 and will be sold on T-Mobile.com, in T-Mobile retail stores, select dealers, and national retailers nationwide. The expected price is $49.99 after rebate and a two-year service agreement and qualifying Classic voice and data plan are required.

Congrats! This is a great for someone getting their first smartphone or one that doesn’t need the bleeding edge. Speaking of high-end devices ..can’t wait to see what comes out from you in the coming months.

Well, it’s not the Lumia 800, and it’s not the “guns n fire” Nokia needs to smash back into the States, but it *is* a nice phone for those who aren’t after really high-end phones. The price is good too. I’m looking forward to some great Nokia marketing on my American TV! It’s been a while!!  :)

Looks nice, I want this with an updated N900 core.

Different Looks, and need a cheaper substitute to N9 like 710 to 800 or 900.

603 looks similar to 710 and it runs Symbian Belle!

Thanks for the link, sumaygia – sorry your comment got stuck in moderation!

Certainly a good price for the phone – not everyone is looking for the highest-end phones. It should give the HTC Radar 4G a run for its money (given the HTC is $100 after rebates as compared to the Lumia’s $50).

    Best of luck.

I love Windows Phone, don’t get me wrong. I hope this is going to be successful, but please, Mr. Stephen Elop, stop doing what you’re doing to Symbian and MeeGo. You don’t need to destroy their reputation and remove all the services (e.g. Ovi Contacts) that differentiates them from the other OSes. Please, if WP is competitive, there’s nothing you should worry about. It’s getting attention, so what do you want?

You can’t just deny the fact that Symbian fans will continue to buy the new devices. It’s a matter of choice and “love” for the OS. You can’t force anyone to jump on a new ship.

Ovi Contacts (the website – the only bit that’s discontinued) wasn’t especially well-used, is my take on the matter. The money to support it is better spent on things that people really do want to use, surely.

        I’ve used Ovi Contacts!
What money will go to? FlashMob dancing?!

No, Kris. Creating a huge model of Nokia Lumia 800 in Hong Kong made up of Nokia N9s and Nokia 600s. That is.

Most of us are holding back for the N8 successor, ragardless of whether it’s running Windows or Symbian; The latter could of course take advantage of better hardware and more customization (dual core, RAM, improved screen etc..) but the former is designed by some of the best engineers on the planet. Personally I wouldn’t want to be in Stephen Elop’s shoes on this one.
I don’t think executives at Nokia are dumb enough to “throw the baby out with the bath water” and not have a contingency plan in place, which imho would be akin to signing their own death warrant, but let’s wait and see what 2012 has to offer before surmising their OS strategy as divisive.

Here’s to hoping that Carla and Donna are the real deal. Symbian is best known for its ability to maximize the phone’s performance even in limited processing power. What more if it’s dual core? That would be insanely fast!

Belle works pretty well on new 1GHz handsets (700, 600, 603, 701) and it has everything you need.

And I hope it is effective to slow down that 1GHz beast when I don’t need it, such as battery will last for a while.

I have a huge feeling that the Nokia N8 successor will be offered in both Symbian and Windows Phone flavors. The latter will most likely be served in the North American market first. It’s not about the operating system anymore as long as it is performing how I wanted it to. The hardware and software matters most to me, and I don’t need much apps. Let’s see what Nokia will offer in 2012!

I would prefer to have the choice and order a N9. Searching now for something similar without so much restrictions as Windows Phone. Any suggestions? :(

I’m sure you can order N9 from INternet. Amazon has it. Expansys has it too. Both are solid stores.

    • http://twitter.com/capricotwi04 Caprico

I can confirm what KrisToss wrote. A friend of mine got it over amazon. But it’s a fact that through the very bad and stupid decisions of Nokia’s management, the N9 is not officially available in the US. So you will never get the support by local stores/providers you would get in a country where it’s officially sold. But if you’re a lil flexible it totally worth it to get the N9. It won’t disappoint you.

Even the visibility in shops and price matters, people buy phones also based on what others have bought and told and first impression. What comes to the first impression, Lumia 710  is really not on the same line with others due to the boring and ugly home screen of WP7. I am really wondering why Nokia has not yet done anything to it even there seems to be easy and fast ways to improve the very first impression when looking at the phone, ref some recent home screen hacks.
