We were promised that

This should not be named as Coming Soon!!! Starting Feb’12 means it can be there on 1st or 29th… First it was said by the end of Q4 then it got changed to Early Jan & not Starting Feb…??? Really confused..

Go try Android or iOS and u’ll feel the pain in the ass, nokia only delayed the update, they didnt cancel it “which happens with android after less than a year, they always drom the support to sell more” & with iOS u’ll get updates -features! so you buy new one as well lolz.

I’ve used Symbian handsets since the original N-Gage (i.e. I love the hell out of the OS) but if it wasn’t for my N8′s amazing camera and FM transmitter I would’ve moved over to Android by now. My patience has really run out, sad but true :/ Belle is _ready_

Well the article talks about an “enhanced” version of the n8…does this mean there have been changes/enhancements to the the hardware or is just called “enhanced” because it is delivered with Belle?

Adam, I feel sorry for you when ever you have to publish such an article. I mean, everyone with even the slightest connection to the fan base knows, that most of your loyal fans and customers feel disappointed and betrayed when you have to inform us that Nokia once again missed their own timetable by 2-3 months. And yet, you have to use the title “Nokia Belle coming soon”.

Starting in February also means that not all users will receive it at the same time…

This is simply sad. Nokia again and again fails to deliver on their promises…

Nokia destroyed symbian (epoc-psion) vision back in 2000….choosed the worst part from symbian to develop (s60 non touchscreen ui) back in 2006 (when they  allready had s90 touchscreen OS/UI  capable of run s80 apps)…  playng with development for 10 years to create one good enough touch screen UI (symbian^3 and ,later in 2011, symbian belle ) …..and now they are killing symbian literally……But the question is : WHY ???

So is true Mr Elop is killing symbian …but even so wp7 or 7.x will not sell  even 10 %  of symbian sales

Why can’t everyone realize that Nokia is doing their best to save the Symbian platform? I mean, at least we are continuously getting updates for our phones originally released last year and early this year. The delays are due to the fact that Nokia needs to optimize the software for each phone model to suit its hardware (for example, the N8 which has no NFC). Be thankful that these things are being offered for free. Because during the old days, you have to get a new phone every time you want to keep up with the trend (or if you want an enhanced OS). Please, appreciate the efforts that the developers/programmers are doing to make our phones better.

And do not attack authors/writers/contributors in this blog. They do not code. They only follow what’s being told. Have some respect.

You are right if Nokia Belle can be put in the new n8, c7 and c6-01 then it is fully ready to be released.

I’m sure you’re aware that they need to optimize the software for each phone according to its model number, carrier and place of manufacturing. Let’s consider those factors first – maybe these are the reasons why they have to delay the release of Nokia Belle a couple of times. I’m disappointed too, but now it’s good to have and hear directly from them a concrete release date of the said software update. Keep patient. Better late than never.

In my opinion, Symbian Belle sounds much better than its current name. It was introduced by that name, and it should be released that way. There’s no point of burying the Symbian name further.

On the other hand, maybe there are reasons why they renamed the OS. But clearly I thought, Ovi is the only one which is going to be “evolved.” Also, according to Wikipedia, the Nokia OS is a collection of their user interfaces for Java and Symbian: which we know as S40 and formerly S60.

I do agree that it should be released the same time that N8/C7/etc. are refreshed to everybody that already owns them. I mean, people who already have them will wait for the update, they won’t buy a new device that is the same as their current one, so there is little sense (unless the underlying hardware in those Belle’d N8/C7/C6-01s is somewhat different) not to release the update the same time those devices are released.

That being said, given the prices of the N8 atm., and with Belle on the road, it’s probably the best bang for the buck. Heck, even I’m contemplating on getting one mainly because of the camera, even tho I really cannot go back to Symbian after the fabulous Maemo…

February 2012 is not soon for an update that is already available on new phones. The only logical reason for the dealy is a wish to sell these new phones and let the first generation become obsolete before the update.

I’ve been the (fairly) happy owner of numerous Nokia phones (and then some) for the last 12 years or so (including the turn of the century Communicator brick, which was great fun at the time), but I’m sorry to say that I’m seriously considering Android, too. WP could have been an option. Now not so much, due to Nokia’s unforgivable Belle delay (I have an Anna N8, according to Nokia originally to be updated to Belle by late Q3).

I wouldn’t count on it. Especially if we’re talking Finland’s Rovaniemi Satnta.

February? Really? Dear Nokia, I’ve been waiting so long for a stable release on my E6, that I’ll be switching to other vendor. Thanks for supporting loyal customers – I’ve owned basically all the E series. This was my last Nokia ever. Nokia, YOU’RE AWESOME

ha ha … 1ghz ? Low-end Nokia 500 (which I bought recently) IS equiped with 1Ghz and … no sign of Belle for it … (although they said that 500 will also have Belle update …) Nokia is more and more chaotic… Shame. This is really impressive how they ruined their own really reliable brand. Keep on doing like this, Nokia guys and soon you’ll end up producing socks for reindeers …

better title “Belle has a release date” notice how I omit the symbian, something Elop really hates, and the Nokia, something fans (who pay the most for phones hated) and got the point. Symbian/Belle is finally looking very nice and modern, and has great Mapping tools, App store and Music store. All Nokia needs now is dual core CPU and 720p display support and Nokia phone can again be competitive with the best and latest iphone and Android phones.

720p support should not be hard for Nokia to do, if Apple can quickly double the iphone vertical and horizontal resolutions, so can Nokia.

Since Symbian kernel is supposed to have SMP support, so why not have phones with dual core CPU?

Come on Nokia, please release some super high end phones, and take back your leadership, no need to wait for Microsoft to do your job! You need to do this ASAP, because even your loyal die hard fans leave you…………….

If the symbian team can ‘t do it, let the N9/harmattan team have a go! I want a super smooth Nokia phone with great camera, dual core efficient CPU/GPU, 1280×720 super high quality display (don’t make your phone too big like those stupid Samsung big phones!), good signal quality, long lasting battery and loud and clear voice quality when making call using standard and speaker phone modes ( My N9 speaker phone sucks! Not very clear and volume is low:( )

So my phone is able to receive this update because it is running Symbian Anna which is part of the Symbian^3 platform rather than Symbian^1 or as it was formally known S60v5. Symbian Anna which I currently run, was formally known as Symbian PR2.0 and is the second major variation of Symbian^3. This new update of Nokia Belle, formally known as Symbian Belle, formally known as Symbian^3 PR3.0, formally known as Symbian^4 running on the Symbian^3 Platform is the third major variation of Symbian^3 and is still the same OS despite the change of the Symbian branding to Nokia despite Nokia already being the brand name of the company.

This will make it the fourth rebranding of the operating system in two years with every possible variation still listed on the internet… This has made things more confusing than it needed to be, especially for the general consumer who does not follow what Nokia does religiously. I’m not even sure if what I stated in the first paragraph was correct!

Perhaps instead of laying off so many of those symbian developers Nokia should have cut back on some of their marketing division. Afterall they seem to have an abundance of free time to rename the same product over and over again!

Okay, I’m over it. This is Trojan Horse’s plan – to delay the development of both Symbian and MeeGo, so everyone would be fed up and will jump to “another, not just burning but already into ashes platform.” I’m sorry, I love Windows Phone too but Elop’s wrongdoings and shameless disrespect to Symbian makes me think twice if WP is really that competent. Can someone at Nokia tell me if it is POSSIBLE for Nokia to release a phone model that initially has Nokia Belle loaded on it and then later could be migrated to Windows Phone (i.e. is the CPU compatible to do this)? Seems like it would give Nokia faithful a migration path from one OS to another and allow them to move to Windows Phone if they feel it is worth it. Might help sales.

This is not possible . Windows Phone demands that certain hardware buttons are present. Then there are other hardware restrictions as well that comes in to play

Andre, there is no way any S60 v5 phone (like the N97) will receive Anna or Belle. It has a different OS to Symbian^3. Only the devices listed will be updated because they were originally either S^3 or Anna. (E6, E7, N8, X7 etc) All you can hope for is bug fixes and other minor updates, but essentially, your OS will remain the same forever. Sorry dude. If you really like the form factor of your N97/N97mini though, try and get hold of an E7. You’ll get Belle (eventually) and it is a dream of a phone.

i have a nokia c7-00, product code 059b7w4, which had the latest update of Symbian Anna V 24.001, i had flashed it with phoenix service software and upgraded to belle, now that i have used belle, i am not satisfied with the features of it, as it doesnt play videos like anna, neither it displays inbox etc nor it has the camera result as it was in symbian anna.

If you’re a US owner of a Nokia Nokia N8, Nokia C7 and Nokia C6-01, you won’t get the Nokia Belle update until November 2012 because it took them forever to finally release the Nokia Anna update to US customers.

my problem is i feel the leaked version of Belle is not stable yet and am facing some problem regarding Sms ( its mix up Sms and sent it on its own ) … 

Any how .. i tried the downgrade on my E6 using the latest 25.7 firmware but it gave me a dead usb phone , tried many time but no use phone never boot up to Anna , so i revert back to Belle again and it work but still facing the same damn Sms issue , so i want to ask what is the  firmware for Nokia E6 will be good  for my phone to go back to Anna  ???

Well, the leaked version of Belle means that you’re not using a version that’s made for your device. Of course you’ll encounter problems.

The only way to get a working version – in which you’ll also get support if you need it – is to wait for Nokia to deliver it your phone.

also using the leaked version of Belle on my C7-00, and I can confirm there were some issues when updating to the new homescreen widgets (I had to revert to factory settings, now the homescreen works fine), and I guess this would confirm the rumours about the delay – they still wanted to improve the updating process from Anna (while newly shipped phones with Belle work fine already).

one more thing I really hope will be fixed in the final version: NFC support in the browser!
the contacts application is actually still using NFC Bluetooth Pairing even to transfer a single contact (would be much faster using only NFC! i.e. SNEP, Android Ice Cream Sandwich already supports it, hopefully Nokia will soon, too)

but in the browser, nothing happens yet when touching two C7′s =(
browser version is 7.4.2.6, which is also the latest available on the phones at RDA, so this is actually the latest one already, but doesn’t support nfc yet!? =/

hi guys i really hope that what ever bugs were there with symbian anna will be fixed with symbian belle os as i had a problem at times when sending sms it used to stay in the outbox and said resend after couple of mins but it never used to send until i restarted the mobile, now i have given it for replacement just waiting patiently so that these kinda bugs would get fixed, if that is the case then i’d say that this delay is good for us, the end users

From what I understand its not possible to downgrade the firmware. I went to Nokia Care to get my N8 downgraded and they said it was impossible so I pushed them and they said they didn’t do. Maybe using JAF or Phoenix you can.

N8 can be downgraded, it’s all over the web. And I did it many times.

it’s right that symbian anna faces many problems …sometimes the home screen widgets gets confused and suddenly stops then the phone restarts …besides the leaked version of symbian belle is the official symbian anna but cracked and had few upgrades…so i advise you all to wait the official symbian belle software from nokia ….it’s coming soon

very late, but good to see. i have it already nearly a half year – from october. during flashing i i dindt lost any data from mass memory (games, photos, apps…) – only contacts had to be copied again from sim.

I love Nokia, adore it actually, and so proud it had been my first cell (Nokia 5300 Xpress Music) and since then I’m a Nokia fan, now I own a Nokia E6, which I can’t have my eyes off of it and I’m very impatient for it’s Belle update, let it be as fast as possible-can’t wait!

There are no hardware changes to devices already launched. Just the OS has changed.

hope belle solves issues with N-8. Can’t use dual network mode, because it keeps restarting if I do. Can only use GSM mode, which is very slow for internet use….Nokia has no solution other than formatting but that does not help.
So here’s hoping for a quick Belle release!

Its is true, that Belle OS can increase the speed of my surfing network? im using N8.

Auto focus is a hardware feature, Belle is a software update. You would have to replace the whole camera module to get autofocus.

nokia is already preparing ovi store and websites for belle,  I CAN SENSE IT GETTING NEAR

But what about the old smart phones like n97 and 5800 are they getting any updates or not …..

I have 111.030.0609 (Nokia Belle) on my N8-00, and I can tell you this.. It’s really not that great.. It’s better than Anna, but it’s still pretty horrible compared to other OSes.. Now I am not going to make this as my final judgement of Belle, because I am well aware that by the time the official Belle gets released it might be a lot different than the version that I’ve got on my N8-00, but being a Nokia user for so long, I doubt it.  So in other words there’s really nothing much to be really excited about flashing to Belle.

Also not to mention that there are quite few of apps that aren’t working in Belle, most notably Skype and Nokia Panorama.

will those update for all language and region or just start from several conturies but then for other region, like China.

It says in February 2012.  It’s only 1-27-12.  Just be a little more patient.  You could always flash it you didn’t want to wait for an official update.

I absolutely hate my E6. This was my first experience of Nokia having used Samsung for 10 years. If Belle doesn’t come out soon and improve things I’ll be throwing it in the bin and getting a Blackberry.

Nokia.. I used to like you earlier for your feature packed products and bringing innovations into the mobile world… but then it started to change…. I started loving Nokia.. I got so used to your phones.. I really didn’t like the idea of switching.. I am not otherwise conservative.. but then, I can’t win an argument these days Nokia.. my pals have been laughing at me for waiting this long for a Symbian Belle update… they have iPhones and Androids  with them.. for each good thing I find in Nokia, they reply me with atleast 3… I am losing the battle..  I told them N9 will turn the world upside down.. its a remarkable phone beautiful inside out..but didnt’ quite rock the world as expected.. anyways.. Nokia.. I am not leaving you anytime soon.. I am still ready to wait.. but lot many people out there wont be… but I DONT WANT TO WAIT FOR A SYMBIAN BELLE Update which has already running on phones…My N8 is dying for it…  Folks here and Nokia fanboys.. hit ‘Like’ if you stand for the same cause…
