Looking forward to CES

Stay away if you don't like crowds

GLOBAL – Half the team are currently on their way to Las Vegas. Why? Because next week sees the arrival of CES (Consumer Electronics Show), one of the year’s biggest showcases of new technology.

The CES show has run since 1967 and seen the first introduction of many of the most important innovations in consumer technology over the years. Around 20,000 new products are launched every year at the show.

Landmark launches include the first VCR (1970), the first camcorder (1981), the Amiga computer (1984) and the original NES console (1985). More recent years have seen the unveiling of the first HDTV, Blu-Ray discs and a slew of leading smartphones.

Despite the name, CES isn’t open to the public. Rather, it’s where manufacturers unveil their latest wares to potential retailers and operators, and well as hordes of tech journalists (around 6500 journalists and bloggers attended last year).

The scale of the thing is vast: judging from last year’s figures, there’ll be more than 40,000 exhibitors alone. Here’s a map of the upper level of the south hall at one of the two venues:

Map of the show - good luck

Nokia will be there in full force, of course, with its own stand (South 3 – 31409) and a press conference on Monday PM (Pacific Time).

There’ll be full coverage right here, so check back then to see what happens as it happens.

I personally can’t wait to hear what new and exciting products Nokia are bringing to the States in 2012. The rumor mill has been working overtime in the blogosphere, but I am hopeful for some surprises with regards to Nokia smartphones, (although saying that, I won’t be giving up my stunning N9 any time soon!!) Still, it’s all interesting stuff, and I’m glad Nokia have a large presence there this year. :)

Nokia has very interesting things I am sure to share with us as they have aquired smarterphone and i am sure it will be the core for Qt and swipe UI on mobile devices that Mr. Elop has repeatedly spoken about.
So a new era for mobile devices begin at NOKIA.

The Lumia 900 will be Nokia’s show piece, but the game changer won’t be announced until next month

Yes, wouldn’t want consumers there as they might tell someone what they are doing right or wrong with their products. Hmmmmm!

Hoping to see at least couple of devices that haven’t been on the rumor mill. Hope Nokia to bring some high end devices besides lumia 900, so far as per rumor lumia 900 doesn’t seem to be that really exciting.

Nokia should announce the N9 for the US. I already had to bring 2 of them with me when I went over there past month. Would be easier if US customers could buy it straight by Nokia… But I don’t think Nokia is that smart… ?
