CES happenings: Lumia coming to Canada and Lumia 710 on sale in US

LAS VEGAS, NV, United States – We’re happy to announce that the Lumia family is expanding across more of North America.

Today, Nokia Canada announces the availability of the Nokia Lumia 710 which will be offered by Rogers Communications and the Nokia Lumia 800, available exclusively by TELUS.

The Lumia 710 is designed to bring a very capable social and connected smartphone at a very attractive price point. The Nokia Lumia 800 brings a stunning design, a fantastic 8-megapixel camera assisted by a Carl Zeiss lens and a bright display.

The Nokia Lumia family is powered by Windows Phone 7.5 Mango which is centered around people including the exciting People Hub, an amazing app that brings all your people in various social networks (including Facebook, LinkedIn and Twitter) into one place.

    I’ve been looking for any Lumia to appear on the Nokia Canada site since the European launch. I don’t know where Nokia Canada is announcing this but it’s certainly not to people who would actually like to have one – there’s no mention of the Lumia on Rogers, Telus or Nokia Canada websites. Announcement? What announcement?

    Hey Jason, will the telus version of the lumia 800 be CDMA? or will it still be GSM?
    what im trying to ask, is if i buy it, can i put my rogers sim card in and use it?

    Yeah. Nokia Canada just updated their website! Really looking to replace my Palm Pre with a Windows Phone and one of these Nokia devices will likely be my choice (any word on the 900 or is that just being greedy at this point).

    The US is getting the 800, it will be available unlocked at Microsoft Stores, none of the carriers will subsidize it though.

    The reason why I’m bringing this up is because of a few points (mind that these affect me personally and it is what I want and does not represent the opinion of most people).
    1. It is irrelevant (to me) on which carrier the Nokias will be available on. I will buy my Nokia unlocked regardless (currently barely hanging on with my Nokia N73 on Fido bought unlocked from Hong Kong 4 years ago).
    2. Despite the 800 being well-received, it doesn’t change the fact that its chassis was originally meant for the N9 and then reused to get the 800 out the door as quickly as possible. The 900 seems to be the first Nokia handset designed for Windows Phone (to me at least and this is further proven by many sites reviewing both the N9 and the 800 saying the design suits the N9 better than the 800).
    3. (This is a minor pet peeve of mine). The 800 is outsourced and made in China, not by Nokia. From what I read, the 900 will be made in-house at Nokia (similar to how the N9 is made in Finland).

    I’m just hoping Nokia will release an unbranded, unlocked international version of the 900.

    I’m no cell expert, but I asked a similar question at a Telus booth “I have rogers” and they said if the simcard type is the same and the cell & simcard is not provider locked, then you should have no problem.

    When is Nokia going to get on board with CDMA carriers in the USA though?  Nothing to announce for Verizon (largest carrier in the US) or Sprint.  Would love to see a 800 or 900 on Verizon as a Verizon customer.

    So it will run on T-Mobile’s 2g network and AT&T’s 3g network ? If that is true that is an epic fail !! If it can run on both networks HSPA + network then your cooking with gas!

    I’m a fan of nokia and I always looking for somthimng new from nokia, bu the problem is in South Africa we don’t even have lumia 710 or 800 yet but already I see here the topic is about 900 I wonder how many years it will reach my country. I would love to own 900 soon
