Super Bowl on your Nokia

PORTLAND, OR, United States – Americans will be glued to Super Bowl XLVI on Sunday. It’s the most-watched sporting event in the United States, typically drawing in 111 million viewers (one-third of the U.S. population, roughly).

And all over the world, in different time zones, people will be staying up through the night to watch the New York Giants slug it out with the New England Patriots in Indianapolis.

And mobile phone networks will be full of tweets, Facebook updates and text messages about the big event.

According to Harris Interactive, 60 per cent of mobile users plan to look at or use their mobile device at some point during the Super Bowl.

Looking at the younger crowd, 30 per cent of those aged 45 and under plan to watch the game with their phone in hand and about half of users 18 and older plan to check their device up to 10 times during the game.

What the study doesn’t say is how these folks will use their mobile, but most likely it’s to check Facebook or Twitter to see what their friends and family are saying about the game  and the ads that appear between the snaps, throws and huge running plays.

Surviving Super Bowl Sunday in style

Epicurious

Super Bowl Sunday is like a holiday in many American households. You see, professional football in America is the most watched sport and Super Bowl is the culmination of a years’ pride for fans across the United States.

With that, making the food for such a party is a huge deal. However, if you’re armed with your Nokia Lumia, you have no reason to worry.

Just load up Epicurious and see the greatest recipes that are sure to delight your guests.

For Superbowl Sunday, I’d recommend these Epicurious recipes to give your party a kick:

ESPNFor keeping up with the game and real-time stats, there are a few options available in the Marketplace. However, Nokia’s exclusive ESPN app is the best of the bunch, in my opinion.

I enjoy the ESPN app’s blend of video, news bits, social feeds including Twitter and team-specific information, all available with just a swipe and a click.

And on game day, be sure to check into the ESPN app for the live ESPN GameCast if you’re away from your TV. Actually, even if you’re watching the game, GameCast provides real-time play summaries, stats and other bits every Giants or Patriots fan will crave.

And for those more interested in the commercials of Super BowleasyTube, we all know that YouTube is the best place to see these immediately following the game. If you’re on your Lumia device, which is the best YouTube app out there?

Enter easyTube, a fast and very usable YouTube app for Windows Phone.

One thing I like about easyTube is the app’s ability to share out videos via Facebook, Twitter and email.

Alternatively, if you want to use easyTube to share videos from your mobile, it affords you that ability too.

What are you doing for Super Bowl this year?  Drop us a line from your mobile phone?

Wish we had that fancy ESPN app for the N9…

I just wish Nokia Conversations had actual articles about the N9 and the Symbian phones…

+1 on that. I remember being so eager to visit Conversations and read all the juicy news on Symbian and N9. Now it’s just Lumia, Lumia, Lumia. Sure, they’ve got to cover it (obviously!) but I think people are feeling the cold breeze from Espoo when it comes to the more-cherished platforms from Nokia. *Come on, Jason et al! More Symbian and N9 news stories please!*

@Marc_Aurel:disqus and @Stephens_Eloped:disqus are there any specific aspects of the N9/Meego I can touch on.  what would be interesting to you guys?

To be honest, I’d love to see some articles on the N9 and its popularity over the world, that could put to rest the feeling from N9 fans that Nokia are done with it, and all focus is now on the Lumias. Like, for example, owners’ comments from different parts of the globe and what features they like about it. Or, more interviews with the superheros that designed it and those who work on Harmattan today. There is a lot of interest in this device, so *anything* on the N9 would be great to read. Cheers.

Heres an article. While I like my Nokia E7 and N9, Im amazed by the Nokia lumia line. Love it, must have it. I went to YouTube and watched Windows 8 tablet demo at ces 2012 and was bowled, super bowled over…game over. This match between Nokia and Micro is the best thing that could ever have happened for the consumer.

I’m glad you like it. I hope Nokia does well out of it, I just hope they don’t quickly forget their N9 and Symbian customers too quickly.

There should have been a Nokia Lumia 900 Superbowl ad. Would have been Epic.

I’m boycotting the Super Bowl this year.  My 49ers and Ravens lost two weeks ago….so I hate football.

    (Go GIANTS!!)

@philschwarzmann:disqus I was stoked for the game when the 49ers and Ravens were in the playoffs, however now that it’s Giants vs. Pat, I’m watching primarily for the pageantry of the game and commercials.

If we had the lumia 800 up here in canada we would :( , by the way lumia 710 released up here and no nokia or rogers adds about it anywhere………….pretty big fail.

You are aware of this despite the alleged lack of advertising.

I called the Microsoft store in Chicago and asked if they have any word on the 800 or 900 since Im on a ATT 2 year contract but on a unlocked n9. Since ATT will not let me upgrade to a ATT branded 900, Im going with the unlocked 800 as soon as it comes available through Micro Store. I just purchased a hp computer from them and you get $200 towards next purchase and if you buy a lumia you get one year free zune music, a $120 value.
GIVE US THE 800 and 900 soon please. Windows 8 looks like the hottest software ever, cant wait for Nokia tablet…please.

I am aware of it due to being a windows phone fan, and a lumia one, the regular consumer is not.

Nokia should support N9 because it’s very nice phone.
