Nokia Belle download – your FAQs answered

Nokia Belle on Nokia N8

GLOBAL – Yesterday, the Nokia Belle downloads began- the new and improved OS for Symbian users. While this meant that hundreds of thousands of you could update to Nokia Belle, it has left some of you with a few questions. We’ve gone through the feedback you left in our comments section to answer those questions, as well as speaking with Vesa Jutila from Symbian Product Marketing. Don’t forget, you can also check the Nokia Belle FAQ if you have any more questions.

If you’ve not updated to Nokia Belle yet and are wondering why you should, there are plenty of reasons, explains Vesa Jutila.

“Nokia Belle will transform the experience that existing owners of Nokia N8, E7, C7, C6-01, X7, E6, Nokia Oro and Nokia 500 devices will have been used to on their phone. By migrating to the Nokia Belle operating system and the significant improvements it offers, users will effectively be getting a brand new phone out of their existing handset.”

We think – as do the majority of you – that Nokia has done a great job on releasing Nokia Belle across most of the globe at the same time. However, it seems some people are unable to download in certain countries.

Nokia Belle is specifically tailored to each phone model and variant, which means that updates for some variants are at the moment still under creation. As usual we don’t comment on timelines, but your phone will notify you once the update is available (just switch on the software update auto-check in your software update app). We are also working very closely with our operator contacts to get operator variants tested and approved. Some countries and operators have nevertheless decided to not make Nokia Belle available due to technical reasons. In detail that means, if the information in the availability page states “Nokia Belle not available” the update unfortunately won’t be released for this variant.

We’ve received word today that countries where Nokia Belle is not currently available, might be available, soon. So, keep your eyes on that roll-out list.

We asked Vesa about the availability of Nokia Belle.

“Yesterday, we started to offer Belle downloads in more than 120 countries, and we are happy that many consumers have already downloaded Nokia Belle and are pleased with what Belle can offer them. We are working hard to get Nokia Belle available in more countries and for more variants as soon as possible, including Nokia 500. The schedule for that device is a bit different due to its technical specifications, and we will share more information once Belle is ready for Nokia 500, within the next few weeks.”

This means that Nokia Bells for Nokia 500 is coming, but Nokia can only release it as soon as it is ready. We’re sure you can appreciate that.

Nokia Belle on Nokia N8 menu

For those that have checked the roll-out status list, you’ll have seen that certain product codes are listed along side phone model numbers. This lets you know if you can update, or not. Some people are concerned their product code isn’t on the list. We asked Nokia this question and got the following information:

We are constantly adding more product codes to the Availability page.

You can also switch on the software update auto-check in the software update app on your phone that will notify you as soon as an update is available.

We also asked about the widgets that were spotted in previous Nokia Belle videos, such as the weather widget.

The widgets included in Nokia Belle are the same across all devices, and thus the Nokia Belle update for N8, E7, X7, C6-01, C7 and Nokia Oro includes the same widgets as the Nokia 700, 701 and 603 launched last year with Nokia Belle. Unfortunately, the weather widget is not available on Nokia Belle as it was a concept that was in the end not included in the final software version.

Some people owning older Nokia phones, such as the Nokia 5800 or Nokia 5230 are asking if they can update to Nokia Belle? The answer is clear.

Unfortunately, Nokia Belle is available only for Nokia N8, E7, X7, E6, C6-01, C7 and Nokia Oro (and Nokia 500 soon). We regularly deliver software updates to all Nokia phones to give you both performance improvements as well as additional features.

We hope this answers some of your questions. We are working on provideing more.

    its awesome…

nokia’s made us wait a looong time… and glad to say that Belle hasn’t disappointed…

runs smooth and sweet, and gives your phone a new look. you’d be a nut if you didn’t update

        Hi

I’m sorry to hear you’re having trouble. This happened to me with the Anna update, but luckily not Belle.

My advice to you would be to take your phone to a Nokia store. It’s what I had to do after a couple of weeks of going crazy. Good luck!

      its terrible…

Nokia’s made us wait a looong time, especially because Anna 25.007 wasn’t released for my CV but I have to say that Belle has disappointed…

The new widgets are horrible and the number of lost features is a new record for Nokia. You’d be nuts if you update

      • عبيد سليم

well… to each their own, isn’t it! ;)

Thanks Nokia for answering questions. This shows that Nokia cares about it’s customers whereas other phone manufacturers are only interested in making their own profits. Nokia Belle works great and runs really smooth.

Just one question: Will those widgets be available for Nokia Belle in later updates?

    • http://conversations.nokia.com/ Adam Fraser

Nokia doesn’t usually talk about unreleased products, so we’ll not get an answer about that possibility.

We’ll just have to wait and see.

Anyway, we’ve just received Belle, let’s wait a while for the next one, huh? ;-)

I didn’t mean next Symbian version. I just meant widget updates through phone updater.

Belle sounds great and Nokia’s openness is exemplary. Can we have an explanation of why Belle is not going to be available in Australia?

    • http://twitter.com/MFaroTusino Michael Faro-Tusino

I’d like to know this as well. I was expecting status to say “creating” but having the “Not available” status seems to mean it won’t be coming. Disappointed. Got Anna 8 months after the rest of the world, and no Belle.

    • Tony Nicholson

Because, in Nokia’s eyes, Australia is a 3rd World backwater. I used Phoenix/Navifirm to update mine. Wasn’t going to wait 2 1/2 months like I did with the Anna release.

I agree – would be great to have some definitive news from Nokia about Belle in Australia.. There’s lots of rumours floating around, can Nokia please confirm if it’s in the pipeline or is it never coming?

Updated my Nokia N8 with Nokia Belle! I have to say that it’s amazing update indeed. Fresh new look and everything feels faster and better looking. Very nice update indeed. With this update I can wait Nokia Lumia 9xx eu version more easily!

    Thanks Nokia!

something that i dislike about this is that they said “oh we r going to release belle in 7/2″ and if that was the point why there are a lot of countries where nokia is just “creating the software” while the others, that for some weird reason r all big countries, are enjoying belle

  • Rubén Santiago Cardozo Coronel

yeah but your glorious FAQ doesn’t say anything about the missing space on the hard drives, and please don’t come with belle its major update and bla bla and use more space

  • Anonymous

Hello, I have updated my N8 to Nokia Belle and as far as the user experience is concerned, I am certainly loving it! But one thing I noticed though, it would seem that battery life is shorter with Belle on board.

  • http://twitter.com/Paulysworld Paul Atkinson

EPIC FAIL NOKIA! No Belle update for Canadians. You have lost a 17 year loyal customer for ever. My X7, C7, N8, and 500 will all soon be sold. I am switching to Samsung, you have failed once again.

where are the missing importent widgets in Nokia Belle like

    -RSS Widget
    -Notification Widget
    -small Clock widget
-big calendar widget with not only showing one appointment

in anna times you could have all informations with one look on one homescreen, which offered up to 6 info widgets, thats in belle not possible. You have to swipe and to swipe and to swipe to see everything. Thats a backstep. So there is no advantage of symbian phone anymore. I can also buy an android phone which delivers this a better way…

  • Sanjeet Desai

Please and a strong request – Add sort function when creating a new playlist or adding songs to a playlist…. Or maybe give a function of copy paste a new song to your play list…. Searching the newly downloaded songs amongst the 200-300 songs list is very difficult.
    thanks. Sanjeet

  • Javed Aqthar Hussain

Symbian Anna “email widget” was better than this one. This consumes more space. The font and the color of Anna email widget was more professional than this :(
Symbian Anna “Profile widget” had date and time with it. I only wished there was date at the topmost bar where it displays the time.

  • http://twitter.com/heendrik25 Hendrik

“The widgets included in Nokia Belle are the same across all devices [..]” That’s wrong information, sorry Nokia! I cannot find the maps widget in my updatet N8 belle device, which I can use with my Nokia 701.

I also think that not releasing the other sized widgets in Belle is something like breaking your own promise (your feature list of Belle includes different sized widgets).

You don’t make your customers happy this way.

  • http://twitter.com/Sleipne Vi Mimir

I don’t know if you plan to make another major update for Symbian software. Yet if you plan to schedule another one, can you include Nokia Pure font on it ?

I don’t understand your communication about this new font last year if we don’t have it incorporated into our favourite phone :)

  • arg0

These oversized Belle widgets just take up space, no wonder there was a need to provide more home screens. Nokia, please give users a choice and provide the Anna 1×4 widgets (music player, email, calendar, etc.) also for Belle, e.g. through firmware updates, Betalabs or Nokia Store.
It would be also nice to have a 1×1 shortcut / widget for contacts, rather than a 2×2 widget. If I have to waste 4 squares on a home screen for contacts, then I’d rather use the 1×4 contacts widget and put 4 people on it, rather than just one.

    • Anonymous

This is exactly my biggest issue.  Why the need for big over-sized widgets? Please change it back.

Where are the widgets? The great thing about Belle was personalization where one can configure screen with widgets of different sizes and place and so on. Where are those widgets? I think Anna had better widgets, e-mail, calendar, notifications…

Right now I can not change anything. Oh yeah, I can put big email widget on screen nuber 6. Not great at all :-(

You should atleast test the stuff first before releasing it. Or warn people what will they lose. And no im not speaking about my Phone memory. Im talking about Mass memory. I have 100 MB left on it and theres only NFS Shift app left.
Furthermore, if i knew before installing that, for example, Angry Birds would not work, i would have dropped the Belle straight to trash bin. DO YOU EVEN REALIZE HOW MANY HOURS I`VE PLAYED TO GET 3 STARS ON ALL ANGRY BIRDS???????
What is more, the backup failed even if it said that it didnt. Cause i dont have my contacts. Good thing i save them on my SIM card and dont trust “developers” (hence the ” “) with backing it up.
And finally, where the f*** my LANGUAGE PACK IS GONE? This wasnt mentioned before installing on the Suite. Now i have to go to Nokia care to install it for cash. Nice way to feed your a**es.
And this is only 10 minutes of wandering around the new “better” (yea, right) Symbian.

NOKIA phones are so over after i do something to my N8. Time for Samsung or HTC has arrived.

    • Marco

It was said that games scores wouldn’t be mantained…
However, my mass storage wasn’t touched during my upgrade process. I still have all my data…

      • http://www.facebook.com/people/Ahmad-Amar/100001021590652 Ahmad Amar

It was said that only Phone memory would be changed and it was only backed up. All games and apps were installed into Mass memory.

And I have all of my data too… But its full of nothing. The only thing i can access of 140 MB on Mass memory left is the newly preinstalled (with Belle) NFS Shift and Photos. What a great pleasure. Hope NOKIA bankrupts soon. Best wishes on that.

  • Aswin Rajan

I have been like most Nokia owners.. a loyal Nokia guy..and my decision to buy N8.. was based on the hardware and features.. n since my last phone was the Nokia N82 (the best cam phone in its time :) ).. n i was comy with Symbian..and it’s app ecosystem.. it was the logical choice..
Plus i was in love with the N8 ever since i saw it.. Kinda like the N9.. tho i’m not too exited about windows phone!.(that despite me being a Microsoft loyalist!)

i was deeply saddened to see Nokia abandon Symbian and Meego.. both were platforms that had features and showed great promise!..4 all you droid / ios fans…get your OSes to run on 256 mb ram / rom.with 600mhz processor. n we’ll discuss later :)
However, the Symbian v3..OS performance really made me wonder about my decision.. Anna was a lil better.. but still not what you’d expect from a premium smartphone or a flagship from Nokia…While i do know perfectly happy N8 users.. i am a power user .. so have like a 100 apps installed.crammed whatever widgets i could onto my 3home screens… meanin my free phone memory came to about 40mb.. n free ram was around 20mb!.. boy those were tough times :PI’d been looking forward to Belle since Aug last year.. n had so many false starts through out.. till it was official that Feb would be when i’d be able to take the dive with Belle.and had resigned to my fate… Thant kinda made be waver a bit and look at buying the Lumia.. but the 800 wasnt really a true upgrade.. with just 3.7 inches n 8MP.. Naa the N8 had me spoilt..so i thought i’d give Belle a shot before i abandon ship… n boy was i in for a Treat!7th Feb my friend who had a N8 texts me belle is out . it was a day earlier than i’d expected.. but my happiness was short lived as my phone didnt show any update neither did Nokia suite…. You see the firmware for my dark grey N8 India..was not out yet!.. Then on 8th i see the belle roll out page announce my product code as available.. .. and my phone showed the update.. but Suite didnt…googling up my product code on nokia forums showed that they’d pulled back my firmware for inverstigation..!!! :|Finally, on the 9th by noon they had it available again… (my see saw wait was frustrating… since i’d expect to be amongst the early birds.. since i’d pre ordered my N8 n all..) Plus on the 9th.. i couldnt install it till late evening.. as my stupid suite wasnt really checking with the servers before telling me no update was available. Uninstalling and re installing didnt help either.. Finally i uninstalled Nokia Suite.. deleted ever folder with Nokia written over it.. reinstalled.. and voila i see.. Welcome to Belle! :)Now why did i take the trouble to write all this up?.. Because i’d like to appreciate you guys at Nokia.. the Belle is truly something.. !My phone now has almost no lags which is an achiement!.. given belle was designed for phones with double the ram and 4times the rom!..ram blow reported over 120MB ram was free!!!… my issues with my sony mw600 bluetooth headset are gone.. 6 homescreens.. that’s a lotta real estate..!.. the pull down taskbar looks better than on d droid…. the energy efficient displays means i see a slightly improved battery life….new widgets are a treat though i still would like the ability to resize em….the super fast flat menu (along with a-z order and search) are all great!..Add to it Nokia beta labs apps like Liveview,n nokia maps suite n drive.. universal search.. smart contacts n apps (which list ur most freq used apps n contacts..)  it’s like symbian on steroids!Belle prolly is about a year and a half too late.. but betalabs n the belle n N9.. all show Nokia still has what it takes.. And with the revised pricing and a belle heart.. the N8 truly renews its position as one of the best deals currently in the market..be it on the basis of value for money.. and features..or looks….kind of like Return of the King!Great job Nokia.. wish you folks all the best.. for you guys will always be close at heart for most of us..simply because most of our first phones was a Nokia…Hope to see either more great stuff on the Symbian  / Windows Phone.. looking forward to the MWC Barcelona.. and the N8 successor :)Take Care,Ash

Like a you, I’m a Nokia loyalist living in the United States. I went from N82 to N8. With Nokia Belle, I think the software has finally caught up with the first class hardware that comes with Nokia flagship.  I’m in love with Nokia Belle on N8 and I can’t keep my eyes off her.
Belle might be late but I believe if the next Nokia flagship is released with Belle, it will be a success.  I hope Nokia doesn’t abandon Belle and put all their hopes in Windows Mobile OS.  I also hope Mr. Elops reads this.

My Nokia C7 with product code 050B8B0 has no belle update yet

    • Anonymous

you probably mean 059B8B0 which is named “light_swap_eng_seap” – the only official version available the very old 013.016.
So do you need English langauge only?
then you could download the firmware for any RM-675 product code (e.g. via NaviFirmPlus), and update your phone manually with Phoenix.

       X6 is a S60 5th Edition phone, not Symbian^3.

My n8 is a swap device with a product code for which update is not available through nokia suite. I was asked to contact the nearest nokia care center and have my phone updated.
However, the Nokia care guys refused to update my phone for free and charged me INR 225 stating that my device is not under warranty anymore. I paid up and did the update as I didnt want to do lots of running around arguing that its not my mistake that they changed my product code when i gave it for repair earlier (my camera stopped working)

I feel its unfair on the part of Nokia to charge me for  an update which I cannot do myself using nokia suite and when Nokia claims that the update is free for N8 users

059D7P6 is a E7-00 swap phone, only version available is 013.016 (there have been like 4 new versions in the meantime before Belle!)
so just use a different code then for downloading firmware (e.g. search with NaviFirm Plus), then update manually with Phoenix Service Suite…

There are quite a lot of bugs still in the Belle update on Nokia C7 . The Call Logs disappears when we re-start the phone and the battery back up is also not effective as it used to be when my C7 was running S^3 or Anna .

Can your team kindly address the above issue “Call Logs disappears after Phone restarts” and also let us know if you

By all accounts, The belle OS is highly flawed and users should do plenty of research before deciding to update. Once done, you can’t go back without hacking your handset which is way beyond the capabilities of most users. BEWARE!

If this is the best symbian can do im out and totally pissed. Why would you not have an app killer installed like on Anna . If you install something and it freezes you have to turn the phone off. This is pathetic. I love my N8 but i would rather have anna then belle. Now my phone is a hassle more than anything . If you added features like fm transmitter to your new windows 7 phones i might buy one . But i think im done with Nokia for a wile .

Was Bitte soll ich jetzt machen ?!? Mit freundlichem Gruss…..Sascha

You should ask Smart Communications. I emailed them everyday still no response. Smart site is worthless and useless.

What I did is go to nearest Nokia Care Point and they will do the update for you. (should be in warranty otherwise you will pay for the service fee)

I started on a 5190 back in the 90′s, loved it. Just got a Nokia 500. I can’t download Belle, info is hard to come by and the OS is really sad, my phone crashes, my phone becomes unresponsive. And then I read this crap about being patient and waiting.

I won’t be buying more Nokia phones.

I have a C7-00 and recently upgraded to Belle. If you have the same phone model and are running Anna, DO NOT upgrade to Belle. There are both minor and major bugs with the new OS. I wish I could go back but can’t. Here are some of my beefs in random order:
    - ugly a$$ clocks on both home screen and screen saver
    - too many home screens
    - option “show open applications” no longer available in pop up menu
    - e-mail not sending (not an ISP problem)
    - Skype non-existent (still have not issued a compatible version)
    - Panorama (very useful camera app) cannot be downloaded, worked just fine on Anna
    - slower
    - seems that battery lasts even less than before
    - non-adjustable widget size (HUGE contact widgets)
    - cannot use wi-fi if mobile data option is swtiched off, both have to be on to browse the net. WHY???
    - cannot set hotmail sync to manual, it updates automatically using mobile data – priority cannot be changed
    - qwerty only (yes, that does bug me)
There are more, but I think this is enough for now.

It most likely won’t happen.  The E6 is different than all other formats because of the pixel density.  Since Nokia has basically said that Symbian is going away, Symbian development is weakening and the E6 has even less development.

belle is a good step in the next generation of smart phones,  but I should say that better is always demanded , I hope that the next update will fix the majority of the bugs.
    like:
    - the calendar is toooo slow :P
    - moving files in file manager(why it doesn’t show when press and hold?)
    - search in music player?!

Nokia is very in-cooperative to its customers. Nokia still has not resolved post Belle bugs in N8. The top of the most is video playback issues in playing .Flv, .Mkv and other HD videos. As all such stuff was playing well in N8 while it had Nokia Anna software. I wonder how Nokia is introducing new phone when its old phones facing update bugs?

Nokia is very in-cooperative to its customers. Nokia still has not resolved post Belle bugs in N8. The top of the most is video playback issues in playing .Flv, .Mkv and other HD videos. As all such stuff was playing well in N8 while it had Nokia Anna software. I wonder how Nokia is introducing new phone when its old phones facing update bugs?

Dear How to Update C7 Cella in Pakistan Any One tell me :(

  • Ian Gibbard

I doubt that I will ever purchase another Nokia cell phone, because of all the hassle with trying to sync contacts with my email program (not doable) and because they will not allow the update to belle. I suppose I am lucky compared to some, the phone works well, just not easy to use. Maps difficult to setup and navigate, these guys should learn to copy google and make life easier for the user.

don’t like the new belle update. how do i remove it?

  • Samarth Singh

Guys, someone congratulate me on getting my 808 just yesterday! Yo!
As for N8, I was lucky to have kept Anna 025.007 as my last update, and did not upgrade it to Belle. Anna is still amazing. My N8 still runs on it.
The only problem is that Anna no longer updates anything else. Updates (even apps) are full stopped.

Although I got a new 808 and it handles Belle well.
My opinion is that Nokia should provide a Anna update (or downdate) from Belle, to willing owners. Anna is not that bad, its just “simple” but it does the jobs well & fast enough.

@ N8, E7, etc. owners: Guys, if you’re having problems with Belle, I suggest that you try upgrading again. Nokia has some “Belle Refresh” which is a Belle for those sets having limited hardware like 680 Mhz, 256 MB RAM, etc.
And try dis-loading all the heavy stuff: unnecessary widgets, shortcuts, etc. It should help I think.
