LOS ANGELES, CA, United States – Pop queen Adele is poised to scoop an armful of Grammys this weekend after outselling Lady GaGa almost three to one in America with her album 21.
The music industry’s answer to the Oscars takes place on Sunday at the Staples Center in Los Angeles and you can catch it in all its glory on CBS from 8–11:30 pm.
Adele will perform at the show, singing live for the first time since her vocal chord operation last year. And she is favourite to scoop the big awards including Record of the Year, and Song of the Year with Rolling in The Deep, Album of the year and Best Pop Vocal Album with 21. She is also up for Best Short Form Music Video for Rolling in the Deep, and Best Pop Solo Performance for Someone Like You – taking her potential toll to SIX.
Her album 21 has made record history by becoming the first album since 1993 to stay longer than 17 weeks at the top the Billboard 200 chart.
As Paul Gambaccini says in the Daily Telegraph: “If Adele Adkins does not convert her six Grammy nominations into a haul of golden statuettes this weekend in Los Angeles, eyebrows will be raised on both sides of the Atlantic.”
Adele will be joined by an astonishing array of stars who promise to make the 54th Grammy awards the best-ever. The Beach Boys getting back together for the first time in 20 years on stage. Tony Bennett, Glen Campbell, Coldplay, Rihanna, Deadmau5, Alicia Keys, Paul McCartney and Nicki Minaj, tipped to be Newcomer of the year, will all perform. Nowhere else could you see such a huge list of A-listers on one bill.
